Marshall labelled Vintage 30 and G12 Heritage.

There's an ebay auction round my neck of the woods for a Marshall TSL 2x12 extension cabinet. It's loaded with a Celestion Vintage G12 and a G12 Heritage with the Marshall logo stamped on the back:

They're both about 70-80 watts I think. Other than the obvious higher power handling, do these speakers sound very much the same as normal V30s and G12H-30s?

Hey Hj...

The Marshall G12 Heritage is physically different than a V30. I have had them both next to each other and have measured both. The magnet and voice coil cap are obviously different. I am not sure about the G12H30 in comparison to the Marshall G12 Heritage.

I find the Marshall Heritage G12 actually doesn't have the midrange spike of the V30 and may have a better high end. It actually sounds better than a V30 to me. About two out of every three V30's bother my ear.

I run one Marshall G12 Heritage in a 2x12 under my Laney GH100L and have had no issues. Marshall actually lists the Heritage G12 as a 70 watt speaker (in the 600 series section).

Actually, I am wrong here. I can make a comparison for you. The G12H30 doesn't have as much bass as the G12 Heritage, but the voicing is similar. I am guessing the added bass is something that came along with the extra power handling. The G12H30 may be a little quicker to breakup and the G12 Heritage may be a little more open.

It would be interesting to hear from someone who has looked at a Celestion Vintage 30 and a Marshall Vintage speaker and how they compare.

I was thinking I could do a crazy mix of something like G12 Hertiage, G12 Vintage, Vintage 30, G12H-30 or Black Shadow C-90. It's **** hard to find a complete set of the same model and impedence here on the used market.

Mixing might be the way to go, although I'm a bit concerned how inconsistent it would sound. Four new V30s or G12H-30s can cost a total of almost $900 here!

I've got that cab. If I'm right, the model is a Marshall TSLC212 2x12 ext cab.

I got this to compliment the shortcomings of the Wolverine speakers in my TSL602 combo.

If only I had the $$ I'd be giving you a great review of the V30's vs. vintage/heritage speakers. I've never been totally happy with the wolverines and I've got replacing them with V30's somewhere on my to-do list.

anyways, the 2x12 cab is a great sounding cab. If I run my amp thru this cab only, it sounds great, with great lows and mids. Not much highs, but I wonder if thats a placement issue cuz its on the floor.
