Marshall Mavens; setings advice for JCM800

Re: Marshall Mavens; setings advice for JCM800

i'm not entirely certain who you are, or why you are trying to trade off the great 'Gearjonser's name, but let me say one thing.
If you think a 500 dollar set of vintage Mullards is no better than a cheap current set of tubes, then you are not only badly mistaken, but you are also an fool.

I'm sure you won't believe me either, but I agree with GJ here. I don't know how old they were, but a friend of mine bought a '73 Superlead that was loaded with NOS Mullard EL-34s back in early 2002. Out of curiosity I swapped them into my Jubilee and set the bias, only to discover that they sounded ALMOST identical to the EH EL-34s I had been using. I swapped back and haven't really felt the NOS bug since.

I'll grant it's possible that Mullards may sound better in a Superlead pushed into power section breakup, but MV Marshalls sound better just before power section breakup IMO.

I've always thought they sounded best with everything all they way up. The Mig60 is the same way.

Don't try it with one of the Peavey 800-alikes in stock trim though.

That is what Eddie did in the early days.
