two solid state amps that are both 100 watts, i believe the mg is digital while the orange is analog except for the reverb,
i plays lots of metal, love clear highs under intense gain... lots and lots of creamy mids and not too much bass but enough.... i also absolutely love nice warm cleans as well, and nice reverb, im leaning orange because ive heard more demos of it and really dig it alot, cleans and reverb as well, havent heard much of the marshall... what do you guys think? what would buy if u were in my shoes?!

id also be using either a pro tone ocd or ibanez tubescreamer to tighten it up, but im not sure which pedal id use so also if u could tell me which pedal to use thatd be great!

i want you to search my screen name on this forum and look at my posts from like a decade ago because you totally remind me of myself... starting a new thread every two or three days about the same goddamn thing.

Digital amps are gay. Analog amps are awesome. Tube amps are better. Buy a Jet City, a Blackstar, a used Bassman, or a custom Hovercraft. Stop crying, you were going to have to get a cab either way.

But that's just some ******* talking on a forum on the internet. It has nothing to do with playing live guitar to a real audience in the three-dimensional world. Go to a real music store with your actual cash, listen to things with your ears, buy the best SOUNDING (SOUNDING) rig that you HEAR (with your own ears) and **** what anybody on the internet has to say about that stupid goddamn bull****.

I've been mislead by random dudes on the internet way more often than I've plugged a guitar into an amp or pedal and thought, "OH **** THAT'S WHAT I'VE ALWAYS WANTED."

I agree with EP. I was exactly the same, asking endlessly about amps and pickups and whatnot.
Go to a friendly store and try gear. Lots and lots of gear.
I've read bashing of gear I adore (like the Duncan Screamin' Demon) and praise of guitars I do not give two ****s about (I'm looking at you, Ibanez JEMs) and only by trying and playing I've formed an opinion.

I can tell you I think the MG100 is a mushy, shrill sounding piece of crap with terrible EQ and zero respect for the guitar's actual sound.
But you might love it and who am I to disagree? Disregard my opinion and try it, compare it.
That's the way to do it.

This is the bad thing to the net, forums and youtube... When i started playing guitar and i wanted to know about gear I had to take my butt to the store and try it for myself. If i was lucky i knew someone with the gear and i could go over to their house and mess with it. Now people form opinions from other peoples opinions on forums..or they listen to a badly recorded highly compressed youtube demo. There is no substitute for trying out a ton of gear in person... and try everything even the stuff you dont think you will like cause sometimes you can be surprised.

Re: marshall mg100 vs orange cr120

What's your price range? You can get a used Bogner Alchemist for $400 at GC and it will wipe the floor with those other two amps. It is extremely versatile and can get heavy with the FX loop jumped and a pedal out front. Seriously, I'd look into that. Though I think you have your heart set on the Orange CR120 and just want our confirmation/approval.

Re: marshall mg100 vs orange cr120

The CR120 should be a decent amp but really you gotta know if it's the Orange sound you really want.
I thought I wanted a Marshall till I went to the store and tried the ones I could afford.
I came home with an Orange or15.
The trick really is to get out and try things. Bring YOUR guitar if possible.
It's the difference between getting an amp that you keep 1 year vs 3 or more years. You'll save money long term by getting the best thing you can afford and trying it out with your gear.

Re: marshall mg100 vs orange cr120

problem with trying gear is that the stores in my city tell me im not allowd to try it unless im buying...

Weak excuse.. real weak... just get off yer hiney and go try some stuff...

Just walk in and say... "Today iam buying me a new rig IF i can find one i like..." tell them you got cash in your pocket... they dont know if you dont or not. Even tell the salesman upfront "today i can spend x amount of dollars" Then just say sorry none of these are doing it for me... If you come back later to buy it you can just tell them after you thought about it you changed your mind.

Re: marshall mg100 vs orange cr120

I tried a Bogner Shiva priced, in proportion, at around $4000 with no money for a pickup even.
Avoid going to stores in weekends, try the least crowded day and show up in nice clothes with a hint of swag.
They'll let you try the good stuff.

Come in with your hair done neatly and wear a collared shirt ;)

Re: marshall mg100 vs orange cr120

how old r u? just say I am about to buy an amp from either of these two stores

they will b real nice 2 u

Re: marshall mg100 vs orange cr120

I disagree. We're looking for a metal amp here. What you need to do is kick the door in and say, "HEY ****FACE. YEAH YOU. WHERE IS YOUR GOD DAMN MANAGER BECAUSE I AM HERE TO DO BUSINESS AND I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR YOUR BULL****."

Then you break the first guitar you can reach and say "SELL ME AN AMP, DIP****."
