So what's the deal with this amp. Is it any good? Is it Tube or SS. Reason for asking - I've found a deal for one packaged with a 4x12 Cab for £345 UK. It just sounds too good to be true!

Gag. Yetch. Every time I play one of these solid state Marshall heads I feel a little dumber. Do what you gotta do but I wouldn't be caught dead with one.

Re: Marshall MG100HDFX

It's solid-state. I've had the combo version for what must be 4 years now. Sometimes I find the clean channel to be somewhat stale and the overdrive to be overly-compressed, but then there are those times that I tune in to something that is inspiring. Though I must admit that on those occasions, I'm not sure as to whether the amp is inspiring me or if I'm inspiring it.

Obviously you should try to play with one yourself, but from my personal experience, I think it's a good amp. I think it cost me $429 new. Worth the money in my opinion.

PS: The on-board effects are pretty fun, too! You get chorus, delay, a combination of the two, and a flanger. Reverb, too.

No worries, I figured it had to be solid State. Always thought Marshall considered solid state beneath them, hence the Q. It's almost worth buying just to get a good price on the Cab' then selling the amp on.

I'm glad that Pound digs his, but I'm upto my ears in solid state amps and effects to that matter and want to go tube.

Thanks for putting me out of my misery with quick replyin' posts.

Re: Marshall MG100HDFX

Incidentally, I couldn't find any referrence to solid state or tube in the description on their website.

Re: Marshall MG100HDFX

They're probably trying NOT to mention how it's constructed, because it's a cheaply-made low-cost MARSHALL half-stack being adverstized to people who associate the name MARSHALL with quality. Kind of like those Gibson guitars that are now available at Wal-Mart...just deceptive advertizing.

If you want Marshall tone for less cash, there are alternatives out there...

Re: Marshall MG100HDFX

Money not the issue. I consider quality always worth investing in, but at first glance this did appear a fantastic deal, hence my suspicions. I just wanted to check it wasn't some sort of crazy loss leader, end of range deal before I passed on it. It was the onboard FX that got me questioning it.

Re: Marshall MG100HDFX

yeah, the fx's are pretty good (of course not as good as a pedal or so) but they can do the trick if you are not that much demanding. As for the amp itself, let's just say, I think it lacks everything a good amp needs :)
