Marshall Output jacks ?

Can the Marshall 4 lug output jacks be changes to STD.2 lug Switchcraft jacks?
I see the marshall jacks are grounded and insulated from the Chassie. I
Imagine I could use plastic washers to Insulate the switchcrafts? Than
just solder the 2 hot leads to the + lug and the other to the ground lug.
Could it be that easy? The reason I'm asking is that i understand there
is NO !! margin for error at this part of the amp :saeek: The previous
owner already had the jacks replaced and they are not working right.
You have to wiggle the male speaker jack around a 1/4 of a inch outside
the jack. Than It cuts out or loses volume while playing.

Yes, That would be the simple solution. But i have a whole parts bin filled
with switchcraft jack. After years of dealing w/t the Fluky Input jacks on
Fender PCB amps I'm not a big fan of plastic jacks. Is this a common problem
with Marshall amp? Or just typcial of my rotten luck. One of the jacks on this
amp was already changed with the correct part and it's not working properly.
So if I put a switchcraft in I'll have piece of mind that they won't fail on me
(like on gig night :smack: )

My jcm800 head has new Marshall jacks in it and i do not trust them myself..... The ones i have seem to not grab the cable well enough.

I agree that the plastic jacks on the PCB mounted fender amps are pretty bad...I replace them alot myself..

But: On both my 800 that I owned and the 73 1987 Marshall I currently own,I've not had a problem with the plastic jacks..I'm sure you could use the metal switchcraft jacks,but I've just not done that "yet"...... ;o)

I've broken a few of those Fender jacks...... Step on the cord the wrong way and snap!

Yep....Cheap plastic garbage,plus they are the "closed" type jacks...I Much prefer the open metal switchcraft jacks when I replace those..

most second hand JCM heads i see around have at least one knackered jack on them.. i treat my marshall with kid gloves (till the warranty runs out, at least)..

My Laney has what looks like the same style jacks and one of em' don't work?
I wonder if the same jacks where used on the original Plexi's and JTM 45's?

good question, that (scratches head)... it may disrupt the black and gold theme, but metal jacks would just last longer!

any original owners around?

Can´t comment, every "outside contact" component on mine (jacks, switches, pots) had to be replaced when the case was destroyed (to fit in the new "Stealth case").......
