What caught my eye was the 5 stars, if you look at all the other pedals only a very very select few got 5 stars, not even the ts 9s did. The sound clips are very good. they are decently priced as well. I liked the jackhammer and the guv' nor the most. I wanna see how cheap I can get one on ebay.

I've owned a JackHammer since it came out and still love that pedal...Very good tonal range, lots of lows, and great tones with clarity..Mine is stock and un-modded by me! That says alot about this pedal..

Re: Marshall pedals look interesting....

John, I also know that you mod ts 9s and such, and with that knowledge I'm guessing you own some too. I've been interested in a keeley modded ts-9, but thats a lot of cash. Could you say if the marshall pedals are a better buy judged by tone and value than modded or unmodded ts-9s? thanks

Re: Marshall pedals look interesting....

JackHammer, very nice pedal.

Re: Marshall pedals look interesting....

I have heard several of these and agree with everyones review so far on the Jack Hammer I also like the Blues Breaker - it has a boost feature that you can use to just boost the signal without altering it which is nice for soloing - or you can use it for a bluesy crunch. these are definitely nice pedals

Re: Marshall pedals look interesting....

nothing on the gov' nor, I read some reveiws on HC and it seems that the guv' nor would be the best pedal for me. now could the guv' nor be used as a boost like the blues breaker, I heard the blues breaker is kinda dark sounding as well as the jack hammer.

Re: Marshall pedals look interesting....

The guvnor is pretty mint sounding it is the best pedal i own out of the other 5 I own Its extremely versatile and you can use it for light rock to metal and it is great if you want that great marshal sound from any amp, it has a decent amount of bass on its eq (+ deep control) can be effective. But i found you HAVE to use an adaptor not batteries with those pedals becuase they sound crap after the battery starts pooing out. The bluesbreaker is good but it wont go as heavy as the guvnor. They are GOOd value compared to the cheap boss overdrive pedals

Re: Marshall pedals look interesting....

I have a Bluesbreaker 2 pedal, but I modded mine, since it lacked clarity and the chords where terribly compressed, but the wooden sound plus bottomend and feel was good, so I threw in a new op-amp and diodes, will probally open it up some more too, perhaps adding a little more lows.
My Guv'nor is deadstock old blackbox from the 80's....will not mod this one yet...I like it as it is.

Re: Marshall pedals look interesting....

How is the Jackhammer for hi gain metal? Just thinking of getting one for when an amp provided at a gig may not be good for that. It sounds like an amazing deal for the money. Thanks

Re: Marshall pedals look interesting....

Clean boost: The Jackhammer can do this. Just turn the gain down low enough so that you aren't overdriving the pedal. Then crank the output so that you're overdriving the amp.

Metal: The Jackhammer can do this. What I do is use the overdrive setting, flat eq, and not too much gain. I then put an EQ in the chain between the pedal and the amp. With the ten band EQ, I scoop at 125hz, 300hz, and 650h, and I boost at 60h. It works great.

I do not like the contour scoop on the pedal. I would use it to scoop a little bit of the mids if I didn't have an EQ with me. I would use it to scoop the bass end if I needed to use the pedal's "distortion" setting. However, I always use the "overdrive" setting so this does not apply to me.

Right now I have three overdrive/distortion pedals, not counting the EQ I use which can act as a clean boost. They are a script logo mxr distortion, an american reissue big muff pi, and a marshall jackhammer. I find that the mxr distortion is pretty redundant to the natural overdrive I get from my tube amp. It serves to give me a second level, to get a more classic rock sound, or to get a nasty oldschool punk sound. The big muff serves to get a modern, smooth, really thick sound. The marshall jackhammer I use to get my overdrive to sound like a marshall. I've always thought of it as similiar to the mxr only less buzzy and noisey. I haven't had the big muff for very long, only a week, but I tried getting the marshall to sound like it using it's distortion setting - No such luck. It had that huge bottom end, too much actually, but definately has it's own character.

Re: Marshall pedals look interesting....

Im thinking of using a pedal infront of a clean amp in situations in some gigs which have an unsuitable amp (most gigs i play the amps are provided). Im thinking from what ive heard the marshall should cut it and provide usable tones. I would use an EQ after it to boost for my lead. Hearing about the Big Muff etc, are there any others i should consider? i dont want to spend too much, just something half decent that can get me through some awkward situations. Thanks

Re: Marshall pedals look interesting....

I've wanted to give these marshall pedals a shot... if all you guys are saying they're good then I'll check 'em out.

Apples and oranges buddy..The JH is a distortion pedal pretty much and is more aggressive like a Marshall amp...

A Tube Screamer is an overdrive pedal that has more of a compressed tone and is smoother on it's delivery..Both pedals don't do the same things...I use both..

Re: Marshall pedals look interesting....

DON'T BUY A NEW GUV'NOR!!!

The new models sound like shlt in comparison to the older models... get your ass on e-bay and buy an orignal guv'nor. Built like tanks, sound like tanks.

Seriously, don't buy a new model guv'nor, you've been warned!

nah, i agree with him.... the original guv'nor was the master of marshall distorsion. I sounded better than my favourite guitarists with that thing... unforunately, i haven't been able to source it since.

Get an old black Guv'nor... it can do anything from Zakk Wylde to Metallica heaviness. The beefiest tone i ever heard.

Re: Marshall pedals look interesting....

I bought the jackhammer for over $100 canadian.... I bought the big muff for $99. The big muff is much cremier, very very thick, definately a lead pedal. I can tweak the big muff to get the same thickness but it comes much easier with the Big Muff.
