i've been thinking about this. i really love the sound of marshall dsl amps, so i'm amazed that they would discontinue the line. from what i've read and researched over the internet, there are a lot of people who feel the same way.

my fear is that marshall will be pushing everyone to their JVM line and hiking up prices for less in return. i personally think the dsl sounds better than the jvm, but i could be wrong. i just really love how the dsl amps sound and want ot be able to get that sound in the future without having to buy it second-hand.

in any case, if you're one of those people who want marshall to continue producing the dsl stuff, what do you think about petitioning them?

Re: Marshall Petition

Well, I never cared for the JCM2000 or the 900 for that matter, but the Vintage Modern seems to cover those and then some. I think that is what Marshall had in mind when they produced it.

Re: Marshall Petition

Hopefully by discontinuing the JCM 2000 line, it'll be easier to sell mine! :D

Now it is "exclusive". Hahahahaha.

Re: Marshall Petition

I'm sure they will still be around in droves used. Besides, every amp has to be discontinued at SOME point... the cost on everything would go up if they had to make 54395809345804938598034 different amps. (I could be wrong though)

Re: Marshall Petition

The fact of the matter is - is that JCM2000 were not a commercial success for Marshall. It was suppose to be an entry to multi-channel/high gain on tap versitile amp market, but the truth is that Marshall lost its market share in that segment of the marke to bunch of competitors, boutique and non-boutique with huge chunk of this competition just doing the moded marshall or roided 800/plexi marshall tones. JVM is a second attempt, and vintage moder is an an effort not alianate the olds school customer base by old school I mean JCM800 and before. They've done their cost benefit analysis, and their regressions and SWAT analysis, and no petition is gonna overcome that because simply the profit margin aint there no matter how much a small segment likes that amp.

Re: Marshall Petition

Maybe I'm an asshole, but IMO anyone that likes a JCM2000 either has never played a real Marshall or is in severe need of a hearing check.

*ducks*

I am with you, owened and giged with one for over 2 years, worse spent 1600 on gear ever. Everybody and their mother are in High gain, tube multi channel heads now, but I think in 5, 10 years there is gonna be only 3,4 companies who will controll the market, I think vintage modern is the right step, JVM is one of those things that was too risky not to do but ....

Well like it or not, there is some real truth to that. Everything the 2000 could do, another amp could do better for the same money. Marshall had to do something and the VM is supposed to be the answer.

Re: Marshall Petition

While we're at it, why don't we petition Gibson to bring back the Gothic series, and Fender to reissue the Cyclone?

OH YEAH nobody bought those either. Right...

If you dig the DSL's so much...go buy one.
100w head for under a grand
combo, buy it now for $550

Get one now while everybody still hates 'em, when you're an old man you can sell 'em as "Vintage! Only made 'em for like eight years!"

Re: Marshall Petition

I was not a fan of the JCM2000 series, like others have said, the VM and JVM are the new standard line amps. They seem to have about a 7 year cycle anyway, don't they? 800 to 900 to 2000 to VM...

Re: Marshall Petition

why not petition who you want? why discontinue something that is a success? while dsl or any marshall for that matter might not have impressed you, there are plenty of people out there that appreciate them. i, for one, do own a dsl 100. it's a ****ed good amp and sounds amazing with classic marshall tone and then some. it's very versatile and it sounds like a marshall. people like that particular marshall tone, and i'm one of them.

fender brought back several amps due to the demand. the created the supersonic in response to people who continually requested a higher-gain amp. mesa created the express series to satisfy people who wanted a great sounding mesa at an affordable price. pardon me, but i think it's ignorant to say that petitioning a manufacturer won't do any good.

the dsl was a great product because it was reliable, sounded amazing, and didn't cost an arm and a leg like bogner or soldano. there are plenty of legendary musicians who used the jcm 800/900/2000 series amps and got super great tone. does randy rhodes ring a bell? didn't he use jcm 800 amps?

Nope, he used early JMPs. 100 watts, with Altecs in 4X12s and pushed with MXR dist+. You love the amp? and know somebody who also does? great! But its just not enough of you for Marshall to care, sorry, biz is biz. The only reason Messa and Fender did what they did is because those demands would generate enough profit. Marshall like any producer of anything has limited resources, producing 2000s again would take away from JVM/VinMod, I really believe that marshall wants to grab a certain part of the market of H&K, Messa, Soldano, Engl, Genz Benz, that it wasnt able to with 2000s, just face it Messa sold more rectumfires than marshall did 2000s just "bidnez"

Re: Marshall Petition

Also, JCM800s are completely different animals than 2000. JCM800 represents a signature tone on an entire decade in heavy rock, lets be honest 2000s never reached that staged, Messa's rectumfired defined the 90s heavy stuff for the most part.

Re: Marshall Petition

The 2000 series was not really successful, and while you may love the sound of yours, the 2000 does not sound like the "classic" Marshall sound.

The Vintage Modern can do anything the 2000 can do and more, so why would Marshall want to spend that money?

I don't understand why you even care this much if you already have an amp that you like? I mean if you really want another, I am sure you can find plenty for sale.

Re: Marshall Petition

Try to play a few of the other marshall models before deciding. The DSL-50 head I've tried out sounded much better to me than the JCM 800 Lead Series and 6100 30th Anniversary Model that are supposed to be superior. Listen with your ears, take advice with a grain of salt and do what works for you.

Re: Marshall Petition

For the past 15 years or so, players have been wanting Marshall to come out with an amp that has the classic Marshall tone. They've also wanted an amp that gave them that classic Marshall tone plus some modern tones with individual EQ's on each channel. Enter the Vintage Modern and JVM. The DSL/TSL series were not that big a hit. To my ears, they don't sound very Marshally. Though the DSL may be solid and sound good, it doesn't have the sound that players expect from a Marshall.

IMO, if Marshall plans to reissue any other past amp, it should be the JCM900 MkIII Hi Gain Master Volume. I'm not saying this because I own one, but there's a reason I do own one. The tone is to die for.

Re: Marshall Petition

Shogun,

I'm with you bro, I love the sounds I'm getting from my TSL.

Unfortunately, they don't seem to get much love or respect around here. There's defenetely not enough JMC2000 fans around for Marshall to keep it in their line up.

Just enjoy what you have now. With any luck, these amps will gain more respect when the line has been discontinued. Who knows, maybe the lack of availability will drive the value up.

Personally, as much as I love my TSL, I wouldn't mind trading it for a JVM.

Edit: Shogun, I'll support a petition to have Marshall make a 50 watt JVM combo and reduce the price about $500. You'd have my full support on that!
