i didn't say it sounds as good. i said that it does a good range of tones and sounds great. maybe i'm not educated in advanced electronics or circuitry, but i can tell you that the dsl is a great sounding amp. it's certainly worth the money it costs (i got my dsl 100 new for $1000).

I think the DSLs differ greatly from the TSLs, personally. I've heard a lot op people get good tones out of DSLs - not classic Marshall tones per se - but good tones nonetheless.
The TSLs on the other hand I find to be total dogs - mushy, undefined, and NO balls.

i can agree with that assessment. i found the tsl amps to be muddy and buzzy sounding. even with vintage 30's the tsl wasn't that great. IMO, put a dsl in front of vintage 30's and get a super tone.

I think the VM is a step in the right direction for them and I think it's a really good sounding amp, one of the best Marshalls I've heard since the MkIII and SL-X.
If I ever get one, I won't be getting it from GC. Their stuff gets abused. There's a few smaller shops around here that sell Marshalls too and I'd gladly pay a little extra while knowing that the thing isn't thrashed on.

Yeah, probably, like a Mission Aurora combo, but that's a whole different style amp. Bruce Collins makes them. He's the brother of fellow forum bro, Lew (Lewguitar).
Marshall gives me my tone. I use a Vox AD50VT right now and I use the JCM800 model a majority of the time.

The Reinhardt Ampzilla is a pretty fantastic-sounding boutique Marshall-style amp for a reasonable price. I'd consider rocking one of those if I didn't already own a Splawn.

Yeah, I agree w/ this for the time being. But for how long? Everyday more and more guitarist are finding their way on to the net and finding all these other options to Marshalls. I see Boutique stuff hitting the guitar mags and finding their way into a lot of smaller stores all the time. Hell the little shop 30 miles from me just became a Bogner dealer. More and More guitar players are also swearing off GC to. Their sales are starting to drop. Evolution is evolution and if the all mighty Marshall doesn't get its act together, it will be left behind.

with the jvm, marshall might be getting their act together. until they start offering more quality on the lower end and expanding their jvm line a little, you might be right.

Splawn heads still retail new for under $2000. If I'm not misinformed, so do the Reinhardts and Celtics.

my budda was $1900 new. pretty much all of this amp is made in the U.S. and it has ridiculous quality and a lifetime warranty.
boutique amps arent as expensive as you'd think. also the quality difference is astounding. i would bet money on a used + abused bogner lasting longer than a new + pampered marshall.

What ??? if you dont care about cleans or have a guitar with the right pup that cleans up well with your amp, Avenger by Soldano is under 2K and its most elegant high gain there is. Its not marshall tone, but high gain is not a marshall thing anyways. It was kinda started by Rectumfriers and 5150s, but SLO crunch has most composed, articulate, non-noisy elegantly smooth break up. Lycnh uses them and recorded some of his best stuff with them and God knows GL owns, loves, plays and records with og plexis.

i thought lynch uses randall amps, and the reviews i've read about soldanos haven't been that great either. for high gain at that price range, wouldn't it be better to go with a mesa triple rect?

i don't know because i never played a soldano. i did play the mesa rectos and thought they were killer. it's hard to imagine something that much better for high gain, but i could be wrong.

His main amps are: '68 PTP Plexi, Vox AC30 Top boost, metalface Marshall, and a Boogie, I mean an OLD one.
And that Randall MTS Lynch Box has EL34 power and models of those forementioned amps.
