Marshall sl5 : do you like it ?

always SD

hi
do you really like the SL5?

because i don't !
i made a mistake buying this amp

it does not give me Slash's tones
it's not for hard rock
not for a dirty crunch sound
very loud for bedroom

i like the "presence control" and the speaker
the feedback

i think one day i will sell it for a blackstar or jvm, dsl or Palmer or Engl

Love mine, use mainly for practice and occasional studio work, but miked it up at a gig for the first time and it was great.

with the SL5, you can add a boost with a pedal

i like it with a Marshall pedal and that's all

-i like the "presence control"
-the speaker
-the feedback with the guitar

-
it does not give me Slash's tones

it's not for hard rock
not for a dirty crunch sound
very loud for bedroom

you must play loud enough if you want that the amp sounds good
it destroys my ears !

Conclusion
i think one day i will sell it for a blackstar or jvm or Palmer or dsl
if the sound was like the Guns n ' roses in 1987 i would say ok !! but no

The Laney gives me a warmer tone and with a pedal it's excellent
my laney and pedals sound 10 times better for the Slash's tone

the Laney has a very sweet and warm sound with perfect clean tones for every musics

Re: Marshall sl5 : do you like it ?

I thought the SL5 was cool but WAY overpriced. Yes, many other options. Most people want Slash's OLD sound, this is not what this is for.

I do think its funny how you say its too loud for bedroom then say how your going to buy a jvm or DSL.

Re: Marshall sl5 : do you like it ?

I'm not a fan. Clean channel is too clean, dirty channel is too dirty. It should've been a 5w JCM800 with one channel.

Re: Marshall sl5 : do you like it ?

i don't want a dsl 15 or jvm 15
just 1w or a 5w with a good master volume

for example, my Laney is a 15w amp and the volume is not dramatic but i like to add pedals for distortion
most of the times and with this, it's good

the SL5 is not for heavy metal
not for blues
not for Jack White :) too
i tried a lp studio and no, it does not sound good
a boring sound ,not beautiful, not hard rock so ?

but i wanted a new amp
the SL5 is like my Laney with a better Celestion 12" but the sound is not warm enough

so, when i want funk, rock, hard rock, Satriani or Metal i only use my Laney

from Nile Rodgers to Satriani to BB king, to Europe, to Santana to Lukhater Gary Moore it's very very good

but i wanted something Else, like a New Laney and no, it's like a Bad Laney lol

but it's a lovely amp :)
the weight is not like a bird lol

Sounds like the Laney's getting you where you need to be.

Shouldn't have any probs flipping teh Marshall...

Re: Marshall sl5 : do you like it ?

But Laney has high mediums so, for heavy metal it's not good at all

i would like a more narrow sound
and the sl5 is not good for that
it is like a Laney without vitamines lol and without a beautiful sound

and Slash said it was THE AMP lol

i would like an amp which would be like a fuzz without a pedal
or like a Metal zone Boss without the pedal
that's why i want to try a ht 1 blackstar

Re: Marshall sl5 : do you like it ?

people who hate the metal zone are funny
this is a good pedal you can find with Placebo and other professional bands
but
i don't want specially a metal zone in an amp but ENGL for example

i want another sound so different from Laney to SL5 but i don't know which amp would be good for me

Re: Marshall sl5 : do you like it ?

Why not get a preamp pedal & plug it into the fx loop of the lc15-110 & bypass the laney's own preamp? Check out some AMT preamp pedals, they have the option of using it as a drive pedal or a preamp pedal. They are all analog & most models cover high gain distortion too. Also, these pedals when turned off, the bypass sound on these is based on fender preamp, so you are getting two preamp pedals in one stompbox. Should be cheaper than the tech21 pedals new in europe.

Sell the marshall if you don't like it, but buy a new 12" speaker for the laney that has less high midrange frequencies. The blackstar HT1 amp is not an all tube amp even though it's advertised as such, the distortion comes from diodes inside of it, so might as well get a preamp pedal, it will be a cheaper option.

thanks
you mean the AMT 2?
why in the fx loop?
my pedals are in front of the amp
i don't use the fx loop because it makes some hum and i only use the clean channel but i am agree with u

the ht 1 would not be so good ?
diodes?
there are 2 tubes

yes i can try the mt 2

or evh pedal ?:ol

i think my dream is
3 channels
a 1/25w head + 1x 10" cabinet

i think it's a speaker cable for that
i have never tried head+cabinet !
just combos

I think E=ENGL C=Cornford B=Bogner or Boogie, I'm not sure which amps they are modelling but check some videos of these pedals to get idea of the sound. You can use one of these in place of your amp's own preamp instead of buying a whole new amp. If you run one preamp into another high gain preamp then you will get noise in the form of hiss/hum/buzz. That is why you bypass the amps preamp by plugging to the FX return socket on the back, when using external preamp.

The blackstar HT series stands for "Hybrid Tube" i think perphaps, but they are advertising them improperly. They have tubes but these amps are different from all tube amps like the ones you already have.

You have a ground loop problem if you get hum when using pedals in the fx loop of the amp. Are you using an isolated power supply to power your pedals like the Voodoo Labs PP2+ or something like the Visual Sound 1Spot adapter?
