Gr8Scott- the guys at marshall said the new amp is already in Slash's rig for his live set up and he has already been using the 1st prototype on tour for his solo album for a couple of weeks now. Im really excited to hear him use it on future studio recordings and hear how it actually compairs to his original tone on AFD, and how it compairs to the original #39 tone wise.

There are some videos already up on the AFD100 site of slash playing the prototype amp, but the footage is on a camcorder it looks like. can't wait to watch a professional review of it as well as it used on Slash's future recordings.

IMO, in the videos I've seen of Slash trying out the prototypes, the prototypes seem seem to sound more alive, harmonically rich and brighter than his normal tone. It still sounds like Slash, but it's like you took a blanket off the speakers.

Exactly. There's no sense in splitting hairs further than that. What a user's expectations are is entirely up to them.

Mattr4president - I don't think Marshall is going to advertise the amp as if it's the only part of the equation that will be required to nail Slash's tone. It probably will be marketed as the most direct way to achieve his tone (after you buy a les paul of course). If he's running that amp live and in his future recordings, how exactly would this being a signature amp be a bad thing? I don't understand why there is a problem with it. If Marshall can nail the SIR #39 tone with a new design, why not make it a Slash Signature model? He has consistently endorsed their products and has been a sponsored artist of theirs throughout his career. It seems like a logical thing that they would make this a sig model for him since that tone has been his holy grail for all this time and he has given so much input into the design of the amp.

All I'm saying is there are people out there dumb enough to go out and buy this thing without playing it and think they'll sound like slash. My initial point was that Artist Signature Models tend to be re-hash's of existing equipment that a company will over charge for. Like artist signature guitars, take Slash's name off those guitars (or dave mustaines or dimebags) and the price goes down about 25% . I didn't argue that there are awesome features on this amp and I admit it sounds really good, but there is no one else out there that feels the prices on amps and guitars get jacked up just because there is an artist name one there?

Having actually owned a Tim Caswell modified Marshall I can say a few things. First, I would not consider it the greatest amp ever built... #39 does the Dokken thing very very well and if you plug in a LP you will hear AFD... its not as much in the "player" as many are saying. HOWEVER, the amp is BRIGHT BRIGHT BRIGHT. I had to sell it because of a problem with my right ear where high frequency sounds sound like a torn speaker in my right ear if loud enough. It sounded good but gave me a lot of ear fatigue.

You can't really blame a manufacturer for cashing in on something thats become an intArwebs hot ticket.

Lets also not diminish the real genius behind the sound of AFD... Izzy

I saw Snake Pit perform in small pub back in the 90's. Slash used two Jubilee 1/2 stacks. One was setup for cleans and the other set up for dist.

I'm sure your amp was much much better than this afd bs, those picks of the inside don't look good to me, looks like a dsl, tsl cheap boards and components... SIR amps were all handwired with good parts and iron
AFD is all about bright, cutting, screaming guitars...

I'm a bit of a sucker for certain artist gear though. (i.e. My currrent Marshall head )

I'm suprised Axl hasn't tried to find someway to sue Slash and Marshall over using the term "AFD"

I think that's why Marshall called it the "AFD100" and didnt actually spell out the whole "appetite for destruction".....becuase they he probably would.
