marshall sound yet again but combo size

hey guys like the rest of u, im going for jcm 800 sound, but dont want a stack or half stack i just want a tube combo that can do it for me hopefully with the like celestio vintage 30 speaker sound. r they ne i might be able to get off ebay for around like 400-500 bucks.

also u guys said the laney aor is darker, thats good thats what im looking for just a bit darker, but i just dont have room for a stack in my house, and i have to move it around alot between my bedroom and my basement. k thanks

i know this has been discussed before and im sorry to bring it up again but meh. Thanks for helps the noobs like me who keep asking this same damm question.

My adivice is to just save up another $100 or $200 and get a used '82 JCM 800 combo amp...one with vertical inputs. Why spend almost that same ammount on anything but a Marshall if it's a Marshall you're fantasizing about? Get a real Marshall and just be done with it.

I agree with Lew, chasing the Marshall sound without buying the Marshall is throwing good money after bad. You'll lose a little bit of money each time you turn a non-marshall amp, IMO.

I'm a little more flexable, and like several of the Marshall combo's, even if they aren't vertical inputs. I also like the channel switchers. Keep an eye out for these in either 1x12's or 2x12's. Also, search for the JCM 600's as well, underrated amps, and great Marshall tone for a few hundred less than the 800's. JTM's are pretty nice as well.

Lots of options, but get the Marshall, even if it takes a little longer.

There is not a whole lot on eBay right not as far as combo's, but I'd even consider the 900 series. With a new set of power tubes (EL-34's) and a variety of pre-amp tubes, they can be made to sound very decent....and Marshally.

just be sure that you don't fall into the trap of having Marshall with 5881 like me. Duhz ..

I believe that the Marshall JCM800 shouldn't be a problem, but the JCM900 after 1994 replaced their classic Marshall EL34 tubes with 5881s.

I can't disagree with what the other's have said. If it's a Marshall sound you desire? The fastest way from A to B is a striaght line... Go Marshall. But for a British amp on a budget a Laney can't be beat. Just so you have a idea what a Laney combo sounds like I found some clips from my achive. The 1st one is a strat Neck PuP into the low channel (I think I had a Alnico Speaker in it) I'm going for a Lite O.D. Blues tone.
The 2nd is the same guitar with a Twangbanger in the Hi Input ( I may have had the V30 in? I don't remember? It's more of a rock tone Ala Thin Lizzy, AC/DC. Hope this gives ya a idea what these thing sound like.

i agree that the JCM600 are real good too.

i might add this as well. Marshall had a great SS amp modeled after the JCM800 which was 30 watts and kicked butt. used a Celestion speaker too. Gearjoneser sold one a bit ago and raved about it.
a Friend of mine had this amp and it totally Kicked!
just needs a few pedals in front to boost it more, but in the end it sounds great. and the biggest plus is that it sounds great at LOW volume. For home it might be a great buy.
you can sometimes find these suckers on ebay for super cheap!

Is this the Marshall Artist 4203? If so, I have one of those now and I think it sounds better than my Silver Jub did... And it was only about $400. Mean sounding little amp, solid state pre amp and EL34 tube power amp

BTW I got my JCM602 combo at a pawn shop for 200 bucks!

Yes, I made out like a bandit on that one-they had no idea or could have cared less that it was a tube amp.
However- I've since put almost 2 times the cost in speakers and tubes!, but that was strictly my personal preference, this amp is my #1 stage amp.
I also bought a Marshall MG 4x12 cab (more compact than a regular 4x12), took out the cheap speakers and sold them on ebay, and re loaded it with Celestion G12H30's and Greenbacks.
I don't use the 4x12 except for larger or outdoor venues.
