Marshall stack vs. a Fender Tube Combo

Re: Marshall stack vs. a Fender Tube Combo

traynor ycv50blue. 50 watts, 3x12ax7, 2xEL34, 2 channels, boost switch on od channel, brightness switch on clean channel, master volume, reverb, effects loop, 1x12 celestion vintage 30, 2-year "even if you break it" warranty, way cheaper than the marshall tube combos. best of all, it sounds good. better than the marshall combos IMO.

i suggest you keep the marshall and just buy the traynor.

Re: Marshall stack vs. a Fender Tube Combo

The difference in Marshalls (100 vrs 50 watts) is barly noticeable in the volume. It is headroom that you will see more or less of. They are both Loud..... very loud Amps. With a Master volume control thay are usable. I have a 50 Watt 900, a Fender Super Reverb and a Deluxe Reverb. Lately I have been using the Deluxe. 22 Watts is more than enough volume for most of the places I play. If I need more I can use the Super. The Super is louder, but it also has a lot more headroom than the Deluxe. The Marshall is a beautiful sounding Amp, but the cleans just don't compare to the Fenders. IF i really feel I need a lot of versatility I will use both, I A/B the Marshall with my super or the Deluxe. This gives me everything I need, but it is a lot to carry. In many cases I use the Deluxe with a TS9 and I can get just about everything I need to do with that. It weighs abot 20 pounds and my board is easy enough to move around. Consider portability also in your decision making.

Re: Marshall stack vs. a Fender Tube Combo

Have you ever tried using your DSL200 with a stage monitor or even a 12" or 15" loudspeaker. I had the same concern as you do with my 100 watt Marshall head and a 4x12 cab. I tried it with one of my Fender 1272XP monitors and it worked well for me. I still have to carry two pieces of equipment to practice on top my guitar, but I can manage their sizes and I get the sound I wanted.

orange rockerverb 50 watt 2x12...people are selling their rectifiers for 'em.

Re: Marshall stack vs. a Fender Tube Combo

Sorry if this has already been suggested but how about keeping the head and just running a 1 or 2x12 cab?

Re: Marshall stack vs. a Fender Tube Combo

Super reverb, BF if posssible very tight and excellent tube distortion at vol. 5 and over. These amps play clean when you want but the amp will start to break-up at higher vol. But as posted Fender and Marshall are 2 different animals.

I always recommend the Crate (ignore the name) V-series or Traynor VCV50blue for Great marshall sound in a combo.

that's an excellent suggestion too

Re: Marshall stack vs. a Fender Tube Combo

Another option is to look at the fender Hot Rod Deville 212 or Traynor Blue 50. I've heard the Traynor has excellent Marshall dirt and excellent cleans as well.

Re: Marshall stack vs. a Fender Tube Combo

I'd love to have a Fender combo but there is no way I'd part with either my Marshall or my Mesa to do it.

Like has been said, the Twins are way too loud for most rooms just like the Marshall is. I've had my eye on a Deluxe Reverb RI for awhile now but moneys been tight. The Hot Rod Deluxes sound pretty good but they are loud as well.

If pristine cleans aren't an issue, look into one of the 18 watt Marshall clones. They are still loud but nowhere near their 100 watt cousins.

With my 2203 I often run through one of my Mesa 112 cabs and that makes it far more manageable, both to move and level-wise.

You could also try a power soak.

I am thinking of trading in my DSL2000 50 watt head and 4x12 cab because it is just not practical. It is too big and way too loud for a player that plays clubs once in a while and mostly in the jam space with other musicians and at home.

I love the sound, especially with my LP and strat. I think I might break my heart if I sell/trade the amp, but thought I'd get some feedback/reassurance from you guys.

I am thinking of trading it in for a 1978 Fender Twin Reverb (2x12). I've heard this amp and think it is a great one.

Here is the link for the amp I want: http://songbirdmusic.com/torasp/odetail.asp?id=10217

I play modern and classic hard rock and need something that competes with the Marshall stack. Do you guys think I am crazy?

Wow, thinking about trading in my amp feels like I am breaking up with my girlfriend!

what do you guys think?
:burnout:

I havent read the replies..but want the tones of both? ..how about Blackface? Tweed? JTM? 800 series? Modded Marshall ?

buy this:

With the deep cab they use, it gets alot of closed back cab punch...while still having open back spread

I did a detailed review here not long ago....more I play it..more I fall in love with it.
