Marshall Super Bass for guitar ?

Re: Marshall Super Bass for guitar ?

Off the top of my head,

6 $$$ Trick is with a Traynor Bassmate.
The 3 Beez, Gibson Atlas.
The Funk of the Ocean. Traynor Bassmaster MK II.
Another Street Scene Junkie, Ampeg B25b
Hot Thang Fantasy, Stramp
Big 18, 68 Bassman into a 1-18 EV loaded bass cab.
Atomic Arrival, Risson that I tweaked to SB hybrid specs.

Thanks
James

Re: Marshall Super Bass for guitar ?

That is a variation of the 2203 and looks almost identicle to my 1984 JCM.

<~~~~~ Its a master volume amp and not a superlead.

I spoke to the seller again, and he told me this is the knobs on that amp,

. . . from left to right :

SLOPE - BASS - MIDDLE - MID SWEEP - TREBLE - VOLUME

Doesn't look/read like a master vol amp !

Re: Marshall Super Bass for guitar ?

Okay that is a totally different amp design from the previous Super Bass amps from the 60's and 70's. The earlier super bass amps and super lead amps were close enough that they could be converted from one to another fairly easily.

The 80's super bass was specifically designed and voiced for bass exclusively, and has little in common with contemporay Marshall guitar amps. It features active tone controls and a parametric EQ. I don't know how it work for guitar? It might be great, but it might not be too.

There are plenty of examples of guys using 60's plexi bass amps for guitar work. Duanne Allman's 50 watt plexis were the bass models, not the lead models. But the bass model plexis essentially retained some of earlier circut design of the JTM45 and the JTM45/100 guitar amps, such as the shared cathode, the larger coupling caps ect...

The JCM800 Super Bass is not close to being a plexi bass version though.
