i have a marshall tsl100 with a les paul classic and a fender mexican strat(fat 50's pickups which will soon be custom 69's). i am having trouble gettings a good tone out of the amp for the music i play. i play cream, hendrix, gnr, van halen, aerosmith, velvet revolver, alot of led zeppelin, pink floyd, chilli peppers, nirvana, pearl jam, pumpkins, the who, and originals. i also have a peavey 4x12 for it, which is very old and i dont even know anything about it. i am going to get rid of this cab and get a marshall 1960a vintage 4x12 cab. can anyone please recommend some ways or settings to get a good tone for this music, and also how much of a difference in tone will there be with changing the cab and the pickups in my strat. im also in the process of changing my les pauls pickups to sd a2p. thanx

If the Peavy cab is real old it will have RAM drivers which were made by Eminemce...Eminemce makes a great speaker, and lots of people ever like the ram drivers (Tom Morello is one of them), but most people are used to hearing a Marshall with Celestion speakers...It sounds like you are one of them :) . That said I think a new cab will have a greater impact onyour sound that the other things mentioned, but let's move on the the pup changes. I belive that a LP Classic has a 496 neck and a 500T bridge pickups...these are ceramic magnet pickups and changing from them to a set of Alnico II Pro's will be a night and day difference, the guitar will have a whole new life and tons of new tones you've never heard before. As for the Strat that change will be a big one too...Fat 50's are kinda hot and real...well, there FAT! The CS 69's are much more vintage in output and in tone...they will be much more sparkley and have a real glassey tone compared to the Fat 50's! With the changes you mentioned, I think you'll be much happier. All that said and out of the way, I do not own a DSL but have spen a lot of time with one, and unlike old Marshalls it takes some time to get a good sound but it is in there, with an old Marshall you justturn on, plug in and turn up and it sounds good...I say just experiment around and make the changes you want to and wait for the killer tone to take over the room!
