Marshall Valvestate 8080 keeps blowing fuses...

I have a Marshall Valvestate 8080 and as soon as it's powered on, the fuse blows. I removed the head and didn't see anything noticeably wrong (no popped capicators) etc. Does anyone have an idea to what it might be? I'll probably end up bringing it to a tech but would like to try some things on my own beforehand. Thanks.

I have no idea, but be sure to report back if you get it figured out. I was just looking at picking one of these up.

Pull all the power tubes and see if the fuse survives. (Stock up on fuses first.) then put tubes in one at a time and see if one particular tubes causes the fuse to blow. (Power the amp down in between each test while you insert another tube.)

If you find a shorted tube using this method, replace it. (Or the whole set if you want yo keep them matched.)

If the fuse blows with all the tubes pulled, get thee to a tech.

i used to have one of those. liked the sound, but it broke down constantly. i thought that was weird for an essentially solid state amp. i ended up getting a new amp.

There are no power tubes in a Valvestate, only pre-amp tubes. The output section is all solid state.

I had the same thing happen to my mosvalve power amp and my Eden bass amp after I let my bass player borrow them and he ran then on 10 into a 2 ohm load. The Eden lasted quite awhile but would turn off after it got to hot like that, then one day refused to power up at all.

Blown transformers in both, the mosvalve I bought a broken one for parts and fixed, the Eden I replaced the whole amp section. The Eden transformer had caught fire even at one point my repair guy pointed out.

Needless to say he left the band shortly after this.

I used to love the sound for what it was. But the fuses constantly blowing made me use my backup amp... a Peavey Deuce.... which I like but man is that thing heavy.
