Marshall Vintage Modern - Opinions?

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern - Opinions?

I had the 100 watt head. I got the matching 4x12 cab that goes with it. Big difference. It may take a bit of time to dial it in but its worth it. I wish that I would not have sold it. There is also a forum online just for the Vintage Modern. You can always replace a bad tube. You may have to re-bias if its a power tube.

This is a great thread...I am selling off some old gear to buy something new and the VM with matching cab is high on my wishlist! Keep the comments coming guys!

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern - Opinions?

I tried the vm 100 and the 50 head with matching cab and liked it.tried the 50 combo-yuck!the cabs were 4x12`s w/greenies. I prefer a `97 dsl w/orig trans.

If you are still debating over the AC or the VM because you like the cleans, let me tell you that the VM has GREAT cleans. Maybe a bit fuller and richer sounding than the AC, but still very chimey. I've never been so impressed by the clean tones of an amp as I was with the VM.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern - Opinions?

GuitarDoc, that was exactly what I wanted to hear. I'm swinging by the shop tomorrow and I'll see how loud I can get the cleans. I'm not too worried since I've been gigging with a 15-watt combo and it puts out enough volume for this band, just not very clean. I figure that even if the VM breaks up sooner, with two speakers and 35 more watts I should gain plenty of headroom.

Maybe you tried the Chinese version or something. Unless you're strumming quietly in a guitar store, there's no way that fits a description of the VM combo.

I attest to the fact that the Vintage Modern has beautiful cleans. The cleans are "alive" and make you just want to sit there playing clean blues licks all day.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern - Opinions?

Just tried the amps cleans out today. Using a neck-through guitar with a Duncan 59 in the neck, I put the master all the way up with the body on 2 and the detail on 3, presense up pretty high. That thing is awesome, really tight and punchy cleans and breaks up a little when you dig into the string. Not at all what I expected from a Marshall. I think I'm going to buy this when I start my new job in a couple weeks. I love my little crate combo but I've been gigging enough lately that I really need to upgrade from a 15 watt 1X12.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern - Opinions?

You're gonna love the VM. It just DOES what you want. The distortion on the VM is also every bit as wonderful as the cleans. Don't discount that aspect of the amp, as good as the cleans are.

All I can say is that it is just a really super sounding amp.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern - Opinions?

Oh man. I just realized.

I'm starting to get some serious severe GAS for another VM.

Dang!! I already have too many amps.
