Marshall Vintage Modern vs.Mesa Boogie Electra Dyne

BOTH are 'kinda' single channel amps.

Which one of the two do you believe is the more versatile one of the two, and which one do you feel will suit your music better ?

Is there anyone here who tested or owned both of them ?

Any info on these two amps going head-to-head with one another will be greatly appreciated.

Honestly it is REALLY hard to beat the Electra Dyne. It is a powerful and amazing sounding amp and my favorite Mesa to date. I have played one a few times and heard both the combo and head cranked before at gigs and they really sound good. The Vintage Modern I hear a lot of bad things about and have heard one live once and it was very mediocre IMO

Hmm...while I am currently using Marshalls, I would have to say Mesa Electra Dyne on this one.

Well they both sound great. The Electra Dyne is more versatile for sure. Overall the Electra Dyne is superior in my opinion. It's got a real nice reverb, clean channel, different flavors of overdrive, tube options, power options, etc... It's also built really well. I don't know what it is but there's just something about Marshalls that just seems like they're made less sturdy and with cheaper components. I'm not saying that based on any facts, just how I perceive the two amps.

I own an ED and it has HUGE balls. The low end is pretty tight but very full, even with the bass knob all the way down. The trick with the Dyne is experimenting with the treble and presence knobs because they have a very large impact on the overall voice of the amp.

I like the Vintage Modern, one of my favorite Marshall amps, but came really close to getting an ED, opting for the Mark V instead. I fell in love with some of the ED's tones and when I was talking to the Mesa CSR's I asked if the ED's tones were in the Mark V, and they said yes. I've been really happy with the Mark V, but there is something I like about the ED: it is "simpler" and it has a big, mean, nasty "brutish" quality to it. (Brutish, not British.) I thought all of the guitars I tried it with sounded spectacular (G&L Legacy, 335, LP), yet it kept the character of each guitar. I REALLY liked the clean tones--using the 335 for some jazzier things was really sweet. IMO, the ED wins on build quality by a landslide.

Want a Marshall? Check out the Satriani head. Basically a modified JVM - way, way better than a standard JVM. Unreal amp- the JVM410HJS.

Will do - but i believe it is wayyy more than the VM head that i can get !
