Marshall Vs Fender Amps

Re: Marshall Vs Fender Amps

marshall beat your head in distortion and fender smooth and clean or lite od...

that is the best

Re: Marshall Vs Fender Amps

Fender Strat/Tele through a nice marshall Stack/half stack and you got nice hard tones. More so for a little heavier stuff. Havent really played with many fender amps, but the Marshall does it for me.

Re: Marshall Vs Fender Amps

only fenders i like are them old tweed ones. they have that rock vibe you cant get with other fenders. otherwise i'd go with marshalls

Re: Marshall Vs Fender Amps

i have a hand wired weber vst 59 bassman copy i built myself that sounds amazing. 50 watts of muscle. very clear, sparkly, and full of chime until the vol. is about 8. then it begins to compress very evenly and clearly where it gets get more dirt and better sounding the louder you go. it can get very close to some marshall sounds, especially the old bluesbreakers. you just need to go very loud to do it. Alnico speakers and solid pine cab do the trick.

but i agree. a good selection of both is probably best

Re: Marshall Vs Fender Amps

For me, EL34s have always kinda had a soggy bottom end. I prefer the 6L6s of a Fender. However....There is something amazingly therapeutic about the way a full tilt Marshall flaps your pant legs!

Re: Marshall Vs Fender Amps

I'll take my 1959RR and 2203 in Stereo, cranked to the tits any day over anything Fender has ever made.

Never really was able to dial in the famous "Fender Cleans" either. The best clean for me is the Peavey Classic 50.

Re: Marshall Vs Fender Amps

Its about having the right tool for the job...

For some, the right tool is a Fender, Vox, Mesa or whatever...

For me, right now, its a Marshall.

Someday I'd like to add a Mesa to my toolbox...

Re: Marshall Vs Fender Amps

I used to hate Fender amps and used Marshalls, Carvins and Laneys back in the 80-90's on the road, than is untill I found Zinkys little monsters the Fender Prosonics in the late 90's.
Love the liquid sustain and over the top gain and I love the soft expressive cleans. Now I have sold off the Carvins sold off the Boogies and the Marshalls and play only the Fenders!

Re: Marshall Vs Fender Amps

Why does it have to be one or the other ?

Its like strat vs les paul. So many people have and enjoy both.

If you like your marshall and it does what you need, then no you don't need a fender. Just like if you play a LP and it makes you happy you dont need to also have a strat

But they are both great instruments/amps and theres so many classic sounds from both

If you can swing it having both is a real pleasure.

What could be better than running both a twin and a jcm2204 and being able to swap between them or mix the tones on the fly ?

Re: Marshall Vs Fender Amps

I've owned a lot of Marshalls and a lot of Fenders. All vintage amps.

These days I don't own any Marshalls.

I still have a lot of Fenders!

But my Fenders have all been modded so that they have have Celestion speakers and Marshall or Vox tone stacks and other features.

Guess I like Fenders better...but with some Marshall and Vox seasoning.

Personally, I think most blackface Fenders are a bit to clean and spanky and don't have enough midrange. And most Marshalls are to loud and way, way to bright.

So I mix 'em together to get the best of both worlds.

Ples, I love Fender spring reverb and Marshall reverb is not so great.

Re: Marshall Vs Fender Amps

Which type of Fender? Tweed or the Brown, Black, Silver, face? These are very different animals in my opinion. I like the Black face types drenched in reverb, otherwise the Tweeds suites me better.

I guess that means that I'm a Marshall guy, because Marshalls are based on the Tweed Fenders only with different speakers, usually closed back, and with English electrical componants. Sure most modern Marshalls are tighter, brighter, and louder, but it's still in same ball park and they still show that Tweed Fender DNA.

Re: Marshall Vs Fender Amps

Why is this post in the guitar section instead of the amp section?

'Cuz Matt's a noob.

My sound is Marshall, these days, DIY 18 Watter. But it would be nice to have a Princeton for the occasional change of pace.

One is not > the other.

Hi Lew--what happened to your JCM 4010? I thought that was 'a keeper' for you!

Re: Marshall Vs Fender Amps

For sweet cleans, you gotta play a Fender. But for that nasty crunch, you just need a Marshall.

Best of both worlds? Bogner XTC.

I couldn't agree more. Fender cleans smoke Marshall cleans, but Marshall's crunch beats Fender's.

Sold it. To bright and to loud. My modded blackface and silverface Fenders get a very Marshall/Vox tone and at much more reasonable volumes.

50 watts is just to loud.

I like 25 watt and under amps.

Lew
