Lol yeah but currently I'm not gigging....I'm also playing by myself(also sometimes with my teacher) so I want the tone lol....Ya I've noticed that he was using an ESP V through a Mesa Stack I believe...well anyways, I don't have either one but I'm saving or getting a Marshall soon, and I'm gettin the KH602 probablly so I'll have the EMG's...But currently I'm trying to get the AMP settings. I also have a ZOOM 505II Pedal, and you'll be amazed at the Distortion I'm getting from this thing, even thjough I'm fgoing to get a BOSS MT2....So help me with the dist. settings and if any of you guys have one...a ZOOM505II...thanks.
I had a Zoom505II , it was the first fx pedal i got, Im glad i sold it because the only thing that came out of that thing was noise IMO..The distortions were by far the worst ive ever heard so You wont be getting a nice tone no matter how hard you try or what equipment you put before or after it, the ZOOM505II will not get you the tone your looking for.. MT2 is proboly your best bet, Tube screamers are more for if you are using one in front of an All Tube amp and you set your amp and TS to medium level gain, when you switch the TS it will boost the signal coming from the guitar and sent it into higher gain..Lots of people use this method, But it will only work in All Tube Amps, That is amps with An All Tube Power section..

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

Well if you get the MT2, grab a GE7 as well and a good overdrive pedal. Put those on the clean channel.

Set the Metal Zone with highs dominant (but not by too much) and keep them mids semi-scooped with the mid-freq around 10-11:00.

Set the Graphic EQ somewhat like the Metal Zone, but boost all frequencies by maybe 5db. Keep those mids under control!

The overdrive should just be the icing on the cake, nothing too strong to color the tone, but just enough to give it a little more of a liquid feeling.

That got a me a killer Metallica like tone at low - medium volumes. It made me happy at home! Good luck!

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

i think its hard to get hetfield's rhythm tone and kirk's lead tone in one amp. maybe you can get close but not the same. i'ved read years ago that james gets distortion thru his amp while kirk gets his distortion on the front-end keeping his amp clean. i think kirk used an ADA preamp and a tubescreamer if i remember correctly.remember also that james uses explorers and Vs which have smaller scale(24 3/4") than what kirk uses (25 1/2 " strat-type )

thats rediculous
Just about as ridiculous as the tone on St. Anger. :smack: Now there's a tone to shoot for!!! :laugh2: :yell:

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

lol, but I'm telling you, in MoP James did the leads, or atleast the interlude solo. I'm pretty sure he also did the solo..

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

I am pretty sure Hetfield played everything in that song apart from the fast solo which is unmistakenly Hammet.

Um actually...In MoP, Kirk was the rhythm and James was the Lead. So ya. And really a tubescreamer?! I thought those things give you an awesome blues overdrive crunch, not that heavy yet liquidy lead that they had...
you are wrong

James did all the rhythm tracks, as said before, until and including the Black Album
Kirk only did the SOLOS!
