Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

If you just play the songs right, you will get a close enough tone with what ever amp settings :damnit:

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

I was able to nail the MOP tone (James's part) one day in the music store. I had a Jackson RR-1 (with the JB bridge) straight into a Marshall Valvestate VS-100 amp. I scooped out all mids, cranked the bass and treble, gain at around 7, and nailed it. I think the Valvestate mimics the tine of the ADA MP-1's as it is a hybrid. I eventually switched my Les paul custom to EMG's and couldn't get the same tone. I think I read somewhere that James recorded MOP with a Jackson King V. The maple neck thru and either poplar or alder body wings, ebony fretboard, contribute alot to the tone.

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

marshall is not making the vs100 anymore , it was replaced by the avt series. if you really want to sound like metallica save your money for a mesa boogie

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

If you're in NY, I'm interested in selling my Marshall VS100. I upgraded to a DSL401 and don't have the room or need for more than one amp. IMO they're very underrated amps

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

Um, I live in Europe, but my dad lives in New Jersey, and my grandparents live in NY, (I used to live there) so maybe they can buy it, but I'm talking about December/January, so I don't know if youi'll still have it then, or I might just buy an AVT20 what do you think will it get me a good Randy Rhoads/Metallica tone?

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

BryVincent suggested a Mesa Boogie for Metallica tones, and I believe he's spot on there. Why not give the MB a try?

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

Haha are you kidding me? Not only do they not have MB in my closest guitar store (or any) here where I live, but where the hell would I get the money lol...

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

For the solos on Puppets:

James did first solo, Kirk did second

and turn the mids up!!! :p

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

First of all they both did the interlude ands second of all Metallica uses no mids or barely any, atleast that I know....

Re: Master of Puppets sound (the song)...

that tones double tracked, so you wont nail it on your own anyway.
