Re: mastery bridge review for jazzmasters
i was skeptical before i bought this and now i'm just amazed by the difference.
-more sustain
-no buzzing nuisance that the stock bridges are known to do
-sounds clearer, brighter
-more resonance in the neck and body
-the action is perfect. it's lower than before and there's no fret buzz with and without bends
i recommend one in your favourite JM. they are pricey. be sure to get the thimbles too.
I wanted to like mine, based on all the reviews I read online...Just couldn't dig it though, completely disregarding price. I didn't notice any more sustain than before (might be placebo effect for others), mine started buzzing a few days after putting it on (mastery even recommends lok-tite'ing the saddle height screws if you ask them), didn't notice any extra resonance from it, and couldn't achieve any better action than I had without it. The thing that killed it for me though, is being unable to fully adjust intonation. Having only two saddles, makes it impossible to get every string right. It did definitely make the guitar brighter though, so we agree about that. JM's are plenty bright as it is though...
I ended up putting my old mustang bridge back on after a couple weeks. Just sounded better to me, felt better, looked less goofy, and allows for better intonation. Plus I felt like the mastery killed alot of the behind the bridge jangle, and that's a huge part of the sound of a JM to me.
But then again, I actually like all the quirks and weirdness inherent in Jazzmasters, and Jag's. If someone wants their JM/Jag to play like a strat, and sound less like a JM, I can definitely see how they'd like it. Cause the mastery definitely accomplishes that. Make's offsets sound/feel less like offsets, and more like any other fender guitar (which is fine if that's what you're going for).
