Can anyone tell me what he used on the Scorpions Love at First Sting album, I love his lead tone.

It sounds very saturated and he has harmonics screaming all over the place, the tone carried over to the Worldwide live album also.

I have a Marshall DSl and I love the rytym sound but my lead tone is nowhere near being a saturated kind of distortion that I would like.

Can I get this by using my Ts-9 with the amps distortion? I troed it once and All I got was a midrangy loud obnoxiuous bunch of noise..

What is the correct ay to use it like that as far as gain and level settings?

Re: Matthias Jabs

Try it again. I use a Vox Valvetone for boosting my overdriven amps. Just set the drive low and the volume high and see what happens. :burnout:

Re: Matthias Jabs

Basically, it's a Gibson Explorer + Marshall stack. However, a LOT of 80's processing went into Love at First Sting. Fer that kind of beefy tone, you may wanna use an external EQ as well as a BBE ...

Re: Matthias Jabs

Can't help on his stuff, but I just wanted to say that he rocked his a$$ off !!!

I was doing some work in the garage yesterday & they played a triple shot of the Scorps....GOOD STUFF !!!

***bump***

Re: Matthias Jabs

I don't know a lot about his equipment during this time, but he was using Marshall amps, and alternating between those Gibson Explorers and Fat Strats. He's definitely one of my favorite guitar players of all time. Especially the work on "Blackout" and "Love at First Sting". So much of his tone is in his hands.

Re: Matthias Jabs

He used JB's in nearly everything. Around the Savave amusement era he had a strat and one Explorer with EMG pickups but most of his tone was the Duncan JB.

Sorry, Hellion, but MICHAEL SCHENKER played leads on Blackout ...

No, if memory serves correctly, MS was given credit for them, but MJ played them. That was during that transition period, and the info is from the Guitar Player Magazine interview from 1983. MJ could have been lying, though.

By the way, I like your solos from your album (ref: different thread). You sound great, man!

Ah, very interesting!
I've never heard that before. Sure sounds like Schenker on the leads, tho.
Anyone know the truth?!

I think they sound like him, too. But then you listen to something like "Rock You Like a Hurricane", and there's something about the phrasing that's very similar.

Hehe ... well, there are only so many notes you can play over Rudie's barrage of Am riffs on every song! :D

Re: Matthias Jabs

Hate to correct ya Ben..but Michael played on the Lovedrive album...only a few songs...Coast to Coast...another piece of meat, Lovedrive...

Ya know, Ben, it doesn't really matter. They're both great players. By the way, I really like your leads on your new album. You sound killer.

The truth is in listening to the record, if you know Schenkers style and listen to Blackout its pretty obvious that you arent hearing michael. That album is Jabs at his best, songs like Blackout and No one Like You ARE Matthias to a tee.

Michael played on hte Lonesome Crow album and then rejoined for Lovedrive but only played on 3 songs: Lovedrive, ANother Piece of Meat and Coast to Coast. Rudy sacked him before the CD was complete and Michael went to focus on MSG.
