Maxon Delay Pedals?

Is anyone using or has anyone tried either a Maxon AD9 Pro, AD999,
or AD999 Pro analog delay?

I would really be interested in comments and/or reviews from someone other than sellers.

I have to decide whether to have my DMM fixed or move on, and I really can't do digital.

Re: Maxon Delay Pedals?

If you only need 300ms of delay and no real features the Maxon AD-9 is killer, however this is NOT the AD-9 Pro which, IMHO doesn't sound nearly as good. Also, the new Ibanez branded AD-9 are prtty lame as well.

On the bigger Maxon delay pedals the AD-900 is great (but like the AD9 it is discontinued) but the Maxon AD-999 is just pretty weak as well...

I gotta be honest, no other analog delay pedal out there can really touch a Deluxe Memory Man but if you're set on moving on the Carbon is one of the best sounding analog units out right now IMO or if you can find one the AnalogMan echo boxes are killer, they are no frills like the old Boss and Ibanez units but the tone is great.

Re: Maxon Delay Pedals?

Never tried the maxon but i do have the ibanez ad9. I really like the sound of mine and I would assume that the maxon versions are better.

Re: Maxon Delay Pedals?

Well, I was particularly interested in the AD9 Pro with 450ms available delay so it is disappointing to hear that its tone is subpar. The demos for the AD999 on ProGuitershop.com sound a bit dark so I already had a bad feeling about that one. It sounds like the new ICs that Maxon approved for use don't compare to the discontinued Panasonic units.

I guess I'll just send the trusty DMM to Mr. Davis for an estimate for a tune-up.

I took it off my board for the first time since 2003 and am amazed how much quieter the effects chain is without it.

Nothing wrong with the ICs...it is just the voicing that is dark...but the Carbon Copy is also dark.
The new AD-999Pro is pretty good, has multiheads as well...I rather liked that one.

Yeah, the multi-head function is enticing. I have a Nova Delay with those types of sounds, and it is relatively quiet, but it is bleh.

How would you compare the voicing of the AD-999 Pro to the DMM?

Re: Maxon Delay Pedals?

My only Maxon experience is with the AD-900. I got it on ebay and like it quite a bit. Similar to a Boss DM, but doesn't oscillate as easily, and it has 600ms of delay. I'd choose the DMM over it, but if you don't use the mod on the DMM it's a lot smaller.

Re: Maxon Delay Pedals?

Well I like the DMM, but it is also a funky delay that sometimes bugs me(sold mine some years ago).
The AD-999Pro is clean and smooth.
The Nova is terrible sterile...anyways if you like the more funky delay from the DMM, do not buy the AD-999...as it is clean and much more smooth, but has way longer delaytime, and in general is on whole different plane buildwise, all BBDs are trimmed, not just slightly there, but dead on:)
I love delays, so I have several of all kinds:)

Re: Maxon Delay Pedals?

Yes, I love delays too, but I was hoping I could stop at two. But I think there will be more. What are you referring to about the BBDs being trimmed? Is it a matching thing or what?
