May I have melted together windings "tapped" my bridge P90?

Trying hard to get the pickup loose from the cover, (soldered on), with a POS solder iron I had borrowed from a friend.

Now, after I put silicone between the pickup and metal cover, the tone is "darker", the highs are rounder, and the "ding-ding-ding" i got from hitting the low E- is gone.

But, I also feel I got less output (and gain).

Didn't measure the pickup before, and/or after the "surgery".

Maybe the POS soldering iron made the coil so hot, some of the windings melted together/shorted? :o

....anyways, I'm stuck with this PU for so long.,

Going to order a GFS /or original Epi, from Ebay)... to replace the Neck PU, that I tore the soldering iron into the coil on, by accident :/

I think I know what I've done-

The entire pickup became so hot (cause the soldering iron was poor, couldn't melt the solder that held the cover on)

i think I've de-gaussed the magnet? :o

....

Ebay has a set of brand new, dogear P90's (but in chrome),
but I can't get paypal to work. :(

So, GFS pickup replacement it is, atleast for the neck pickup.

I'd really like to have active EMG P90's in this guitar, but that would require some special kind of mounting bracket stuff...

anyhow. Sucks to have damaged my own gear :/

The guitar is awesome, best axe I've ever owned :o

(apart from the 1966 Yamaha SA-5, number #374, that was stolen...)

Too bad I messed it up. :( Even made a scratch in the finish, not on purpose...

well... I'll buy a replacement pickup, and make it playable. That's what matters.

It's maybe not a bad thing-

I used to think the clean channel was always too overdriven;

and the lead channel had excess amounts of gain ;)

But I'll order a neck PU- when GFS tells me if it will fit. :)

Hopefully GFS gets back to you soon. You can always roll the volume down a bit to clean up your sound.
