Maybe I'm asking for too much but...

does anyone know any freeware programs that one can use to record some guitar and maybe simulate some effects?

I've seen some stuff about VST, from what I can tell you can simulate all sorts of things with that but need something from Steiberger to run those simulations.

Any hints?

I know, I do have an amp, but I'd like to test somethings now and I'd like to record a half-way decent clip without resorting to recording the amp with my mp3 player (doubt I can connect the amp to the laptop without blowing something up). I say half way cause I can improve my tone digitally but not my playing :laugh2:

Not sure what you need exactly but here is a 4 track recording software that works really well. It has reverb, delay, adjustable gain, and something else I can't remember. Works great for direct recording.

If you meant you are looking for a guitar effect/amp simulator, I have nothing.

Mmm, thanks, I'll take a look.

Found something called VSTHost, lets just see if I can record out of it eheh.

Look up Reaper . . . I've never used it, but heard that it's pretty decent. At least it's free . . .

Have you looked into Audacity. Pretty good multiple track recording with some effects. You can add tracks to existing tracks. It's a free download.

Let me see. Some good tips, so far, thanks.
