Maybe the best neck pickup ever

Sure, my tastes change a lot. But for the time being I am loving my new neck pickup, paired with the Brobucker in the bridge. What neck pickup am I talking about? Why, the APH-1 bridge of course. :laugh2: It's just that little bit hotter than the neck version I had in the same guitar. The highs come out just a tiny bit more, with a touch more clarity. Awesome, awesome pickup.

Cool! I tried a Seth Lover bridge pickup and also an Antiquity bridge pickup as a neck pickup. Sounded a little to thick and a little muddy to me... :chairfall ...and both had less highs than the neck versions of the same pickup.

Never tried the AIIPro bridge as a neck pickup. Lew

Whats the DC on the A2Pro? I have never seen an A2Pro bridge that was even as much as 7.9k...most Seth bridges are around 8.1k or so and my Ant bridge is 8.6k so...the A2Pro bridges are a little weaker than either a Seth bridge or an Ant bridge.

That'd make a difference alright! The AIIPro is supposed to be about 7.85K.

The Seth bridge is about 8.1K.

Most vintage pafs I've owned were in the 8.1K or 8.2K range...bridge or neck, doesn't matter.

Is it thicker than an APHn? I ask because I would like just a touch more beef at the neck of my Hamer.

Maybe I should just get a zebra Seth. :burnout:

I discovered that the Jazz Bridge sounds like my dream neck pickup. My goldtop LP now has the nickel Brobucker/Jazz Bridge neck. I love it.
I'm almost thinking that since almost nobody buys the Jazz Bridge, they may as well push it as a viable neck pickup. It's like a Jazz neck with a bit more output, which makes it sound better IMO.

My favorite neck pup is the Stag Mag. Its funny that we're all finding bridge pups to make the best neck's. :)

Yes I am suprized that they don't toute these pickups this way... When I think about the Stag Mag... I'm only thinking Neck. I was really suprized when SD only recommends it for the bridge. I know that's where I want my single coil sound... the neck! They should offer a Stag Mag for both positions. IMHO... :-)

Actually, they've updated the SM write-up to include mentioning it as usable as a neck pup now. Perhaps because of us. ;)

Re: Maybe the best neck pickup ever

hmmmm my best neck experience was the VPAF

I happen to use the APH1s and PGs because they have a classic tone to them. Sometimes my APH1 does not give me the clarity I seek, but it matches my bridge models oh so well.

The PG has that little spike in the upper mids. If I could get a model sans that feature, it would be the PG for me - meaning the ULTIMATE fave.

I actually love the Gibson BBs, 57 classic, and I like the Seths - but lack of multi conductor and wax potting kills it for me. Howls too much.

I live the Jazz, but at the moment doesn't match my bridge choices.

Re: Maybe the best neck pickup ever

I had VPAF Bridge in the neck which was a little too full in the low mids, but neck model would be right i guess. This VPAF has a P90/Single Coil thing which makes it outstanding in the neck.
