Mayones Setius Xtreme 36 Dive Bomb Flame Maple Custom Shop Edition

Re: Mayones Setius Xtreme 36 Dive Bomb Flame Maple Custom Shop Edition

I wonder what the intonation is like on that. Id go for a baritone rather then higher frets but looks cool none the less.

Re: Mayones Setius Xtreme 36 Dive Bomb Flame Maple Custom Shop Edition

?? The same as any guitar? You mean the action?

Nope I meant intonation. But now that you mention it I wonder that too id imagine it would be low and smooth but what gauge of strings would you put on it? Anything too thick it would be hard to fret up around 36 considering how small the space to fret is.

1. String guage and ease of fretting are only relevant in the sense that more tension (thicker strings) require more pressure to fret. The amount of space between the frets is wholly irrelevant, regardless of guage, because we´re only pushing down until it has solid contact with the frets, not trying to push the strings right through the neck with vicious power. Case in point, I once had a 36 fret Washburn for a few weeks and strung it with 13s, Zero issues. I only sold it because it sounded like crap both acoustically and amplified.

2. Assuming proper construction, intonation and action will be exactly the same as on any other 25,5" scale instrument of comparable quality.

This concludes Fretted Instrument Construction 101 for today :22:

Whats that guitar that was out in the late 80s, early 90s that was cut out all the way around the end of the board?? I always figured that thing would be thin sounding or fragile, but it worked fine.

Ugh, angled humbucker. I never like the tone of that, too mushy on the low strings.

Thats exactly what I thought. But then I put a Paf Pro in a BC Rich Gunslinger and figured out it's a perfect match.

I need that many frets so dogs can enjoy my soloing too. :D

Re: Mayones Setius Xtreme 36 Dive Bomb Flame Maple Custom Shop Edition

It sure as hell looks cool. With a 7 string pup I would agree if it were angled more. I always liked the idea of angling it the other way to warm up the treble strings.

3 octaves, I still want one. i can see how it could be fun to play around on.

Thanks, Professor. I was referring to a 24-fret (2-octave) guitar being more than enough for my needs and that going an octave higher than that seems completely pointless to me.

...exactly.

Re: Mayones Setius Xtreme 36 Dive Bomb Flame Maple Custom Shop Edition

Let's just say I wouldn't rock it.

I'd probably trade it for a 24 fret mayones.

Re: Mayones Setius Xtreme 36 Dive Bomb Flame Maple Custom Shop Edition

Of course if your only into playing below the 12th fret in chord country this guitar wont be of any interest to you.

But for even finger tapping it would be a unreal experience to play around on.

I didn't realize there would be so many haters of this. Guess that's why hamers virtuoso or washburns ec wasn't a great success. I think people are to quick to judge something they have no experience on. I wonder how many forum members have actually played a 36 fret? I Know i haven't so i cant really judge it.

Being 3 octaves there in the same league as a violin and that's the reason uli roth wanted one. Not that i want to but If you made one or converted it to whole notes beyond 24 it would make hitting the notes a lot easier.View attachment 38706

That is one elegant guitar, but I would definitely need toothpick fingers to play up that high. I've played a 27-fret guitar, but not 37. I've seen a guitar ad back in the 1980's for a Washburn 36 or 37-fret guitar. There's hardly no picking room, unless you adjust your picking style and so forth.

Re: Mayones Setius Xtreme 36 Dive Bomb Flame Maple Custom Shop Edition

I wasn't hating on it. I'd just be intimidated by the extra frets because I'm a sucky lead player with 24 frets.

Re: Mayones Setius Xtreme 36 Dive Bomb Flame Maple Custom Shop Edition

I can`t even use 12 properly, what am I supposed to say? :laugh2:
