I think it's a good price as long as its in good condition. Would help to know though if it's a 10 top, has birds, etc.....
Best axe Paul makes, and the only one I'd still buy. One of my fave necks ever. Tonewise It's like a slightly clearer, more articulate SG...doesnt quite have the balls but "sings" better..great lead instrument..I find they lack some punch for rhythm work.

That's about what I'd pay for a regular McCarty Custom (non rosewood), and there's no real need to seek out a rosewood necked one. They're all great guitars. Actually, what am I saying.....go play your damn guitars! You got some exceptional ones as it is! :laugh2: :smack: Just kidding.
I've had a Custom 24, Custom 22, and 2 McCarties, and I really like the sound of the McCarties the most. The chunky neck and thicker body make a difference, and put the sound closer to a Gibson. I don't know why some guys are Gibson purists, and bash PRS, because they're two different guitars, but both are top notch. What I like about the McCarty is the ergonomic feel (very comfy guitar), and the 3 way toggle is in a good spot, because it's easy to flick while playing. I actually mod mine by cutting the coil tap wire for the bridge pickup, since I like jumping from a full humbucker to a split neck, without having to touch the pullup tone knob. To me, they're like Gibson style superstrats.
The one area where they seem better than LP's is the string to string definition and articulation. The area where LP's beat them is in the signature low mid Gibson tone.

I am really trying to compare the McCarty with the better reissue SG's, not the Les Pauls. I would use it more for slide........once i learn how to play slide:laugh2: The one for $1300 is a dot board and the one for $1500 has the half moons. I would be inclined to go for the dot just because the half moons are kinda cheesy and the birds.........well, they strike me as something that would be on Clay Aiken's guitar:chairfall

I might be wrong, but I think all the McCarties have the crescent moon dot inlays, unless they have birds. From a distance they look like dots, but there's a pearl sliver moon with the rest of the dot being abalone. You really only notice it when the light hits it. IMO, the action is too nice on PRS to use them for slide. Get a ratty sounding cheap guitar and raise the action for a nice slide guitar. Or a cheap Dobro clone.

As a matter of fact I do but I am short a guitar to put it in! I actually have 4 "sets" of pickups waiting on the guitars to call home:smack:

I play a McCarty and pretty much agree with what's been stated allready.
I would add that while I love the McCarty guitars, the McCarty (model) pickups are overly dark IMO. My McCarty came to me (used) with a set of Seth Lovers, which sound more open and better to my ears. So I do advocate a pickup swap. But McCartys are great guitars and have a vibe all there own.
