Me and Snufkin's take at Rid's Am Ballad

Hey guys

hope you're all having a cool weekend!

me and Snufkin recorded this improvisation on one of the excellent backing tracks our dear Rid provided (thanks bro!), HC Funk is a sweet one aswell.

all the guitar work was recorded directly to Snufkin's computer with my POD 2.3. we didnt have any way to mix the thing properly but the guitar sits well enough in it apperently.

the order of playing: i play first, then omri plays, then i go at it again, and so on.
the guitars used were my ibanez and snufkins JEM pretty much randomly by the two of us.. i cant recall what was used when.

i'll be happy if you guys check it out and give some reviews about whatever you liked/didnt like, constructive critisicm is welcome.
bear in mind that this is more of an improvisation than a song with a solid melody etc, so its got a more of a "mess of ideas" feel.

you can download the file (approx. 4.90 MB) from this link, using the speaker icon:

Nice chord work at the start.

I like the melody, but the guitar tone is a little shrill. Do you ever use your trem man? I think you'd sound absolutely killer on a semi hollow and a little less gain..

Nice sweeps omri, some killer licks too

Dudu your phrasing on this one is the best i've heard you and your vibrato sounds very professional, only went slightly overboard on the fast licks but thats kinda personal taste.

Re: Me and Snufkin's take at Rid's Am Ballad

hey nuntinus!
thanks alot :D

yeah the tone is abit shrill
i know this sounds like a poor excuse but...
thats what you get for playing without monitors with new snarling dogs strings direct into the computer.
and the cat nibbled my bridge pickup! :D

i use the trem abit, but when i do its to add a sort of depth to the song ala holdsworth phrasing. i dont like to abuse it, makes the instrument sound like a toy.

maybe i do need a hollowbody..

Re: Me and Snufkin's take at Rid's Am Ballad

thanks Nuntinus.

We forgot the Trems handles up stairs and we were to lazy to ggo and bring them :D

Re: Me and Snufkin's take at Rid's Am Ballad

Very nice takes...it does show your age though;)
Man you are going to be monsters when you get older....keep it up, hope to buy an album with you guys in the future:D

thanks guys

rid, having heard your playing, i realy appreciate the kind words! thanks bro

Re: Me and Snufkin's take at Rid's Am Ballad

Well you do play very very good and have good ears and sense...hehe what else could one ask for??
Me on the other hand is just damm hack who just makes the best of what I have...hehe
But I still likes to practise and listen to alot of different music.
Sigh but I am in one of those after a leap ruts right now....it is like my ears have gone tired all the sudden...lol
No good connections, it will pass with enough stubborn pushing for my part, but after so many years it still annoys me, I learn slow but fortunally most of it stays then, so I focus alot on the fun side to it, I strive for that light Mozart touch....and it is elusive, because it is not easy.
But that is how music is, not easy.
At least not for me.
I have a friend who is a pro musician, he keeps pushing me to do better:D
But I still feel like a bloody hack...hahaha
Anyways I love all these great clips here:)

Re: Me and Snufkin's take at Rid's Am Ballad

i see where you're coming from.
dont think you're a hack, you're being too harsh on yourself.
i've been in that situation alot, if you're stuck its sometimes good to even get a vacation from playing for a few days.
so you'll get inspired from the things you go through you know... and listen to alot of music you like.
then after a few you days of holding these feelings in you pick up the guitar and just pour everything on it.
realy helps to get out of ruts or even situations where you feel you're going in circles, or not having enough good ideas etc.

developing your own "touch" in your playing is one of the most important things in my opinion, and its realy what sets you apart from other guitarists.
take a look at all the realy succesfull guitarists, they all got their own individual style.
i realy dig that mozart feel idea, holdsworth has alot of that going on in terms of that light violin-like feel.

Re: Me and Snufkin's take at Rid's Am Ballad

Yep that is right what you say....
I am actually just missing someone to ping pong ideas with.....I used to to have this awesome pianoplayer that I played with in various combo's.
He was great at getting ideas and was good at keeping at my toes;)
I'm annoyed over my innotation these days, the more annoyed I get the worse it gets;)
Lol yeah I'll put it down for a few days, only do the daily loosen up routines and nothing else.
:D

Re: Me and Snufkin's take at Rid's Am Ballad

thats a mighty nice clip. i wish i could play like that. i can riff quite good, but i cant develop a good solo melody to find my way out of a paper bag

this one is coming onto a CD. very nice guys :bigok:

Re: Me and Snufkin's take at Rid's Am Ballad

mrid, we are honored to have been played through your winamp, and twice no more and no less! :D :)

Re: Me and Snufkin's take at Rid's Am Ballad

thanks for the comments guys : )

sorry for being quite late about it, I went on a vacation.

Re: Me and Snufkin's take at Rid's Am Ballad

I agree with the hollowbody comment... I think that would sound BRILLIANT. The playing is wonderful... some of those sweeps/runs in the middle are amazing. All of the guitar work on this track really just blows my mind. I only dream of being able to play like that!
