Measuring bridges & tailpieces

When looking for replacements, how do you measure? Is it from the center to the center of the studs? And is it the diameter of the holes?

I need a replacement bridge for what I thought was a Korean Epi SG, but it's actually Chinese.

So how do I measure to know how to find one that will fit?

Re: Measuring bridges & tailpieces

The bridge mounting holes for the studs is one c-c measurement. Then the string spread. If the saddles are not notched on the replacement then this is of less importance.

The other key is the size of the mounting holes (diameter). If you have to get one with bushes as well then the size of the holes drilled in the top will be needed. But its always better for it simply to drop onto the existing studs

Re: Measuring bridges & tailpieces

So if you have existing studs for the bridge AND existing posts, then the measurement would be center to center of the posts? And it's missing the actual bridge, so I don't have a measurement for string spread.

Is there a standard as far as Chinese vs Korean vs whatever other Asian countries they were/are made in?

Re: Measuring bridges & tailpieces

The website might come with specs. Otherwise maybe stringlines from the outer E nut slots and over the bridge pickup poles. The gap measured as a straight line on the bridge stud centreline should be close. And there is always a small margin of 'not entirely centred' which is fine either with the slots on a bridge or the alignment of the strings over pickup poles.
