Megaswitch E-Model = Thumbs up!

Just reworked my Silhouette Special slightly... i was using a push-pull volume knob for a splitter and using a 3-way Axis-style toggle to switch pickups.

It worked OK but the cramped space of that push-pull was a PITA to work with, and the feel of the three-way toggle didn't really agree with me. Perhaps a bigger LP-style toggle would have worked better, but I decided it was time to go back to a blade-switch. Sure, I get 5 options instead of 6 that way but I really only end up using 4 of those anyways.

I chose to use this for my two-bucker setup: Megaswitch E-Model

I found this switch much easier to work with than the Super Switch I was using for the same function. Additionally, the Megaswitch E has a nice, solid CLICK feeling when it hits each position. Call me picky, but I like a solid feeling switch and this is the best one Ive tried yet.

If you're looking for a 5-way switch for an HH, HSH, HSS, or SSS guitar, I'd recommend this one... well worth the extra $$. I really dig that you can get both the bridge and neck slot at the same time with a SSS setup without any special tricks. I plan on making use of that feature when I resurrect my Strat.

While I was at it I also moved to a 250K pot instead of a 500K one. Normally I prefer 500Ks with buckers but using a 250K with the JB8/Screamin Demon A2 neck sounds a little smoother and fatter overall. If I want the treble edge back I'll just bump the knobs on my amp.

Jst thought I'd share. :D

I've got this in my Stinnett to go between split modes on my 89/81TW set, absolutely love the flexibility it gives!

And seriously, this thing just feels damn solid... takes some effort to move at first, actually!

I'm still jealous of your Silhouette. I think that as soon as I get a job I'll find myself a congratulory Silhouette special :D But in Europe they're close to €1,500 so it may be a while :(

I just listened to the Stinnett/89 clip you put up... sounds AWESOME.

I haven't tried the 89 personally but the Blackouts AHB1 set I have gels with me more than any EMG set has yet. I do wish the Blackouts were splittable though.

Have you hear about the Sterling by Music Man guitars? They're budget versions of Music Man guitars that are WAAAAY better than the OLPs were. I've played the SBMM versions of the Axis, the JP, and the Silhouette and I wouldn't hesitate to buy any one of them not just as a backup but for a main performer as well. having played their US-made counterparts as well, I can say the Sterling versions are about 75% of the way there in terms of build quality and about 90% of the way there as far as how well they play.

They're releasing a SBMM version of the Silhouette Special in May, street price is gonna be $499 USD here. You may want to look into those.

Re: Megaswitch E-Model = Thumbs up!

Could this switch be used in a two pickup telecaster if i wanted:

Pos 1: Bridge only
Pos 2: Neck & Bridge in Series
Pos 3: Neck & Bridge in Parallel
Pos 4: Neck & Bridge, out of phase
Pos 5: Neck only

?

I doubt it. The Megaswitch E explanation diagram suggests that it requires at least three coils in order to work its magic.

The sounds that you list can be achieved with the regular three-way lever selector and two push-pull pots. One p/p selects between series and parallel in the centre position on the lever. The other inverts the phase of one coil - preferrably, the neck PU.

This diagram shows what to do to a bridge PU. http://www.seymourduncan.com/suppor...matics.php?schematic=changing_tele_lead_phase The same re-grounding procedure can be performed on a T neck PU.

The SD series/parallel schematic is here. http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/schematics/schematics.php?schematic=spr96tip

For an old timer such as I, the easiest way to remember which push-pull does what is to have the S/P on the Volume pot and the Phase Inverter on the Tone Pot. Apart from anything else, these names pretty much describe the changes that their respective pots make. Series increases volume. Phase reversal alters tone.

In the pickup lounge area
theres a coupla posts, to which I have been involved, that give directions and drawings on just that with a 4 pole super switch

Re: Megaswitch E-Model = Thumbs up!

Thank you.

ps: Is there any way to do it with a single wafer superswitch rather than the double wafer...? It's going to be a mission to make it fit in the control cavity.

not that I know of
