Hey guys,
Several years ago I was in a band with a few friends but when we started university we didn't have time to play together anymore. Fortunately the other guitarist/bassist spent a few years going through an audio engineering program and working in live theatre/performances, and he now has the makings of his own home studio.
Here's a track we wrote in 2006 called Guardian that's received a musical makeover. All the rhythm tracks are him playing his ESP LTD F-400 with EMG 81/60 into a Presonus interface (forget which one), through Guitar Rig 3. Bass, drum programming (Addictive Drums), strings, and rough mixing are him all within Logic Pro on his fancy new Mac.
The only thing I laid down on this track was the first lead ~2:55, and one of the harmony parts at the end. On my lead I'm playing his LTD through a CryBaby Classic, going through my Mark IV's recording out into his interface. I'm actually impressed with the direct tone myself considering I didn't tweak any settings, but opinions are welcome. Reverb was processed by some old outboard Lexicon unit.
An important note... when I recorded my lead I was a bit lit up and had had a few drinks, so excuse my sloppy playing and wah use. And, the short diminished run at the end was done purely because we were drunk and thought it would be hilarious
:friday: At some point when I get a chance to mic up my Mark IV I'm going to redo it though.
Comments about songwriting, playing and tone are all welcome.
