Merry Xmas to me

Sort of. I FINALLY finished my 2014 Classic conversion. The bridge tone may be off just a tad, but when I compare it to my 2014 traditional, its dang close. 50s wiring pio caps. Put a blank truss cover on as well as new backplate..the 57classics will go at some point. But for now just glad I am finished. I had a ***** of time with wiring due to a diagram that had the jack wires reversed.Anyoo, going for a 74ishNorlin vibe. I have gold speeds and top hats to try too.

That is a beauty. And, I'm a fan of top wrapping the tail as well.

Re: Merry Xmas to me

Did you refinish it? Surely not. Just the flash on the current ohotos? The pups definitely needed covers. Top hats classier.

Re: Merry Xmas to me

No refinish, though I did take off some of the nitro on the back of the neck so its more like a satin finish.

Edit-clarification, the current pics have no flash. That is the natural color and there is just some reflection from a light in the next room, but its not enhancing anything. The old pic is dark..I shot it without flash in a room with no natural light.

Nowhere neeeeeeeear ugly enough for that! :D

I like those old Norlins with a teardrop burst generally, except some of the really bad off center 3 piece tops..some of those can be pretty fugly.

Heres a better when new picture same room...natural light from outside

Re: Merry Xmas to me

Mid Seventies Norlin bodies are sometimes referred to as "pancake" because of the glue joint running around the edge, between the two skinny pieces of mahogany that make up the overall depth. IMO, they could just as well have earned the description for the lack of carve in their tops, as in, flat as a pancake.

It is obvious in the photographs that the OP's guitar does not lack a decent top carve.

Re: Merry Xmas to me

I think of the many , many burst guitars I have owned in 35 years of (horrid) playing, this is my fave aesthetically. The top looks different but subtle at every angle..Sometimes it has a "old, soft" look to the flame or you might think it's a plain top at many angles with nice growth lines and little mineral streaks .And I just love the color.

Re: Merry Xmas to me

I personally liked it before more, but I like what you've done with it(except the reflector knobs)...Can't really go wrong either way!

Again,Tasty!
