Mesa amps good clean

Re: Mesa amps good clean

Actually the 2nd input skips the first preamp tube ... so the two inputs are different. It was originally designed to be footswitched between the two. They were trying to go from a dirty channel to a cleaner channel.

But I've never used the 2nd input on mine ... the volume knob on the guitar can get you from clean to dirty if it's setup right.

I have a rectoverb and honestly I'm more impressed with the clean on a Marshall DSL. The distortion on the dsl is pretty sweet to as well. You might wanna give that a shot.

Re: Mesa amps good clean

ive owned a mesa dual rectifier (2 channel) and currently have a mesa dual rectifier roadster with a mesa traditional straight-front cab.. the dual channel didnt have that great of cleans so i used it in "variable high gain mode" and got two great distortions.. the roadster has four pre-amp modes for cleans/mid-range dirt: clean, fat, brit, tweed... the clean and fat modes sound great and the clean mode has maximum headroom.. im not a fan of the brit mode (i guess its all they could manage with 6L6's) but the tweed mode hits the spot for mid-range distortion and bluesy tones.. again tube amps taught me to use my volume knobs (instead of jus keeping them dimed on my Les Paul) and i can get a good mid-range distortion just by turning the volume down to 4 with the high-gain vintage distortion channel, without a serious decline in output

Re: Mesa amps good clean

Bear in mind that when Carlos Santana said " These things can really boogie ", he wasn't talking about the clean channel.
