I've wanted one of these since I was a kid...how are they and possibly the .50 head?

I remember when i was a kid it had a great bassman clean and great fat driven tone...but that was in the early to mid 90s...

Just wondering if its a dud or I was really hearing a great preamp back then?

I had the .22 combo (which may or may not be similar, so forgive me if it is not) and loved it. At some point I'll try to find one. Great little amp.

I've wanted one of those too. I have the .50cal+ head and I LOVE, I actually get alot of compliments on my tone at my bands shows . . . always nice to hear:naughty:

Re: Mesa Boogie .22 Studio Preamp

I had both the .50Cal+ head and the Studio preamp, they were both awesome but I sold them while in a "way too much gain" stage. I tell myself that I just don't like the MESA sound...I like them when other people play them but there's something about the feel of Boogies that just doesn't do it for me.....I tried, twice! When I sold the .50 on Ebay I plugged it in and thought "why am I selling this?" They're a bargain and so light weight for a tube head! Easy on the back.......

Amen on the weight part.. I was blown away when my DC-5 came in and the fedex stamp said 37 pounds. The 6505+ head I sold must have weighed twice that. I do agree about the feel of Mesa amps, way different than anything I have ever played. I wonder what it really is.. its like a strange compression, but in feel more than sound :dunno: I like the sound, definitely. Way smoother and chunkier than most amps.
