Mesa/Boogie California Tweed

Any experiences with this amp? I've seen reviews that make it sound like it's the bees knees, and the clips I can find are straight fire.

I'm thinking of getting the 4:40 head and maybe the 410 cab. Or perhaps a custom built vertical angled 212, because I've been in the market for one anyway.

I've played one (head) for a short period of time and was very impressed. It's a lovely amp and the tube configurations let you play at whatever volumes with whatever level of gain makes you happy. Reverb is outstanding. EQ is responsive. It does all the things I like in tweed amps with none of the things I don't. I also really like whatever speakers they've got going in the 2x12 cab - they work great with it.

There isn't a lot from Carvin I'd be interested in, but this one is it. If you get a chance to get one or even try one, I'd like to know what you think.

carvin? :D

ive only played the 20w 1x12 and i thought it was cool. didnt get a chance to crank it up though. clean sounds were kinda refined tweed but with reverb, which was nice. good rocking tones as well

Ohhh, I was just looking at Carvin tweed amps, so it carried over! :saeek:

I've tried the Mesa. It sounds like an old Fender amp mixed with the clean channel of a modern Mesa. Kinda weird. Not squarely in either camp.

thats kinda what i figured. and i agree, its not a fender tweed amp. its a more modern, more polished version of a fender tweedish amp.

I think it's the reverb that gives that polished feel. When you turn it way down/off and crank up the gain it does that very raunchy Neil Youngish tweed sound.

I've had the 10" Cali Tweed for some time. In combination with a few Origin boxes I have no complaints. It's ride the volume nirvana.

I'm also looking at this amp. What's the difference in use case between the 110 combo vs the head and 220 or head and 410

there are two power levels, 20w and 40w, and a few different configurations. which suits you best depends on your needs. for me, either of the 1x12 combos would be good. i like single 12" combo amps, and with the power switching could make either work.
