Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier vs Tremoverb

After many years of chasing tone, buying and selling amps, and going crazy I’m finally settling on a Mesa. I noticed almost every musician I listen to has or had used one and it’s the tone I’ve been on the search for. I’ve always loved particularly the Rectifier series. Right now I’m deciding on a Newer Dual Rectifier or a Tremoverb. I’m trying to work a deal out on the Tremoverb which is mint. I would like to hear from some people there opinions on these 2 amps. I know the Dual might have more features but not sure if I’ll benefit from all of them and it will cost me around 500$ more. I mostly play hard rock, grunge, metal. So think Linkin Park, Rage, Foo Fighters, Metallica. I never had the opportunity to try a Tremoverb since there somewhat rare, however the YouTube clips sounds great!

The Tremoverb is just a Rev G with built-in Reverb and Tremolo effects. Personally, I prefer the sound of the new multi-watts over any Recto since the Rev F, but that's a matter of taste.

For the styles you list, I might lean towards the Dual Rectifier. If you opt for a Tremoverb combo, adding the Horizontal Recto V30 212 will add a lot of muscularity and beef. I'm more of a blues/classic rock player, so for me personally I would choose the Tremoverb. It is a fantastically versatile amp. Lindsay Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac has been using Tremoverb heads and Recto 412s in concert.

Both are really LOUD amps. Professional features.

I would also take a listen to the Mark V (though it has a steep learning curve), and the new TC 50/100. The Triple Crown is a gain machine. And while reviews have accurately claimed that the Tremoverb cops 90% of the vibe of Fender, Marshall, Vox, etc. amps, the Mark V IS nine different amps in one box. You may not need that level of versatility.

Before you buy, take the time to review the Owner's Manuals at mesaboogie.com.

Good luck!

Tremoverb is a bit darker and smoother than a standard 2-channel revG Dual.
I'd say the same thing when comparing all the older revG circuits to the mushier/fizzier 3-channel original(which I like also btw).

The Multi-Watts are supposedly closer to the pre-revG versions but I've never had the revE or F to compare.
Compared to the original 3-channel recto I'd say the Multi is clearer and less squishy in the lows. Sharper treble but not fizzier if that makes sense.

I've never had a Roadster of my own, but it's often described much like a Tremoverb in tone when compared to the standard dual/triple.

Tremoverb with a boost in front has all the gain you'd ever need for metal, but with a richer midrange and more girth in general IMO.
The reverb is very nice to have built-in.
I never use the trem effect. I think my pedal phasers in front sound better for some motion or swirl.
Super heavy head though, but the handle is awesome.

Thanks for all the responses, I decided to go with the tremoverb. I found one that’s near mint for 1250$. I always hd my eye on them and when I saw it for sale it seemed meant to be. I highly doubt I’ll be disappointed. The tones I’ve heard are amazing and oddly enough most of my favorites bands without me even realizing used a Tremoverb.

Good choice.
A few years back I scored an all black 99 in showroom condition with the whole stock set of bottle tubes(str420 and tall rectifiers).
I swapped to the newer str440 and was even more impressed.

I would have picked the Tremoverb, too. My Mesa is in the Dual Rect series (has the logo) but sounds nothing like the ones everyone has...it is a Blue Angel.

Re: Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier vs Tremoverb

I have a Dual Rectifier too! Mine's Maverick 212 V30 combo. I love this amp! In the clean channel I use the tube rectifier for a little sag and AC30 sweetness. Diodes give some Twin Reverb muscle....using the tone controls can really dial in those flavors. My Les Paul into the lead channel serves up tasty Allmans at the Fillmore tone...especially with my Horizontal Recto 212 V30 underneath the combo. Unlike some other brands, I can get good tones at lower volumes...very controllable. And cranked...it sings! Way lighter than a Twin, too.

I ust missed getting a Blue Angel 210 earlier this year; it was gone in a flash. Would love to have one.
