Re: Mesa Boogie JP-2C
I have, about a month ago at a Mesa dealer in Seattle. Still trying to process the experience.
I have about ten Mesa amps right now: DC-3 combo, Maverick 212 combo, three Mark IIIs, a IV combo, a V combo, a V:25 stack, and bought a V:35 combo about three months ago, and a second Maverick up for sale. Total overkill, I know, but I LOVE these amps.
Being a classic rock and blues guy, I don't typically use a huge amount of distortion. So I wasn't expecting the JP to even come close to being an amp I'd want in my stable. Big surprise. I like the clean tones...basically the tones I use with the Mark V are right there. The two distortion channels have that great singing tone that Mesa's are known for...and a whole lot more. The word that comes to mind is "smooth". I would say that the Mark V has more variety of tones on tap, and more switching options...but the JP is more than a one-trick pony. I could definitely gig with this amp in my little wedding cover band. I use single coils and 2HBs, and this has real possibilities for use with multiple guitars.
I can't really justify this to my "financial advisor", but it definitely has me thinking.
I can add...this is an amp for a PRO. Bedroom wankers should look elsewhere.
