Mesa Boogie Mark I Reissue resale prices

Lately I've considered selling my blonde Mark I reissue combo with cover. I noticed that one sold for $909 + $70 shipping on eBay very recently. Does anybody have an idea what the 2009 BlueBook prices are for the Mark I combo reissue amp ranging from Fair to Excellent in condition? I live in the greater OKC metropolitan area and may sell it through Craig's List locally.

Wow, I'm really surprised! No takers? No one with any quick answers as per usual? I would have thought that at least a few members of this particular forum would be somewhat knowledgeable about this subject.

No idea, but i like the Mark I's tone, and i also take it, the MKI RI sounds the same as a 1978 MKI.
IF so, i would buy a RI for $1000.00 (if shipping is incl.) - as most MKI sellers are trying to ripp you off big time these days !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuHyncT1_uA - like this tone !

IF your's sounds like this one - i would dig out 1K for it ! (if i had the money, i would have bought yours !)

Re: Mesa Boogie Mark I Reissue resale prices

Mine does not have a graphic equalizer, and I understand most guys with a lot of Mesa Boogie background and exposure DON'T prefer the EQ models. Mine has a Mesa Black shadow speaker which is actually a pretty good speaker. I read somewhere that the Mesa Black Shadow 12" speaker is actually a Celestion 90 watt power rated speaker. My issue is this 1) The Mark I is a great amp but of all my amps both vintage and reissues, I would rather sell a reissue over a vintage one when monetary resources are low. 2) If I have to maintenance an amp, which is easier/cheaper to repair/fix, an old Fender/Marshall or a Mesa Boogie ? Shipping would be entirely dependent upon where it would be shipped. If it's to Africa, you can bet it's gonna cost more than $100.00 US. I believe that the resale values are up on the Mark I's simply because Mesa stopped production of this model not too long ago. The one that sold for $909 on eBay had a Buy It Now of $1499.00, so I'm thinking that's the top end (or excellent condition) resale value for one of these Mark I reissues. Not saying that I'll get this amount for mine, but it makes me wonder where and how the eBay seller came up with this number.

Re: Mesa Boogie Mark I Reissue resale prices

I hear you about the prices !
I sometimes wonder where they come up w their prices too !
Obviously one should try and get as much for your product as possible.
Like i said, $1000.00 iS a good price for a RI imho.
Sadly there are not many Mark I's old or RI on the net these days . . . as i am keeping my eys open for one, but i do not have the funds now anyways ! Would like to have one before June nex year though, as i will probably not be in SA anymore.
So shipping to Canada WILL be cheaper ;)

Can you get the same sound as the above posted clip, IF, you used a Tele ?
Does your model have some sort of master volume ?
Got any pic's we can see ?
Thanks.

You wanna see a pic? Here's a link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Mesa-Boogie-Mar...4cea306952&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_500wt_1182 (My Mark I Reissue looks exactly like this one)

Front Panel: Vol 1 ; Vol 2 ; Master ; Treble ; Middle ; Bass ; Presence. Back Panel: Reverb and Send/Return Level Pots for the FX Loop. If a person can't get the same sound or tone as in the example YouTube clip there would definitely be something wrong or amiss. The reissues are copied from the original Mark I's (only in this case without the EQ section). I used to own a fender Blackface Super Twin which was later named "The Evil Twin". This Super Twin had a 5 band EQ, only it used potentiometers vs. the sliders that Mesa uses. Too much in a circuit path actually detracts from the tone, otherwise why didn't Fender follow up with this idea on their other amp models? I'll tell you why IMHO, the Super Twin put out 180 Watts RMS. Ted Nugent used 5 or 6 Super Twins set atop Dual Showman cabinets turned vertical so they looked like stacks. At 180 watts or louder EQ comes in real handy (and multiply this by 5 or 6 amps at 180 Watts RMS power, and we're not even talking about peak output power or clipping levels here). Mesa Mark I's are around 90 Watts RMS, not to mention their peak output power. The first thing that suffers in any high volume, high headroom amp are the low end frequencies. Why, you might ask ? Because when all the frequencies from Lows to Highs pass through the EQ section of an amp, the Bass gets boosted and that's where the sound starts to suffer: You lose articulation, and tightness, in exchange for an inarticulate, and flabby sound. EQ's can help somewhat, but the idea of building an EQ into an amp is not a good idea. It's better to have your EQ extraneous to (outside) your amp AND a 5 band parametric is more frequency specific (and preferable) than using a graphic equalizer. A good 5 band parametric EQ will have: LOW EQ, LOW MID EQ, BANDPASS EQ, HIGH MID EQ, and HIGH EQ. I myself prefer an Ayan Smooth and Slim to overcome that flabby, inarticulate, and generally non-tight sound that results when this happens (I wouldn't be w/o my Ayan S&S). Check out this article for a more complete description of how the Ayan S&S works:

Re: Mesa Boogie Mark I Reissue resale prices

All Mesa speakers are branded Black Shadows, whether they are EVM, Celestion, Eminence or Jensen.

Most of the people I know who play Mesa Mark Series amps LOVE their Graphic EQs. I personally wouldn't buy a Mark or Caliber Series amp without one.

Reissue or vintage? I would sell the amp that I'm not going to use. When push came to shove a few years ago, I sold my vintage Fenders and Marshalls, keeping the Boogies. The vintage amps were nice to have around and look at, but the Boogies made me money on the bandstand.

My two cents.

I started digging into my piggy bank as soon as I read your post! LOL!

Actually, I'm set. (But I wouldn't minda great deal on a Super Champ with the EV speaker!)

I had three components modded in the pre-amp but it can be made stock rather easily.

It has the Marshall splat every Mesa owner covets

actually got it in bad shape for a real nice Peavey Triple XXX ultra60 combo :wow:

its real fun when the landlord is not around
