Re: Mesa Boogie V-Twin Pre-Amp soundclips
The V-Twin is a good unit. I've taken it to quite a few sessions where the engineer has messed around for half an hour with Amp Farm or some other plug-in, and I will say "Can we just try this thing for a moment," then it's just game over.
I don't know anything about the Peavey, and I've never tried the V-Twin into a power amp, I've only ever used it for recording. I tried it once into a tube amp, treating it like a stomp box, but it wasn't a very happy marriage. As long as you can settle with only having footswitch access to 2 of the 3 modes (you have to choose between Clean & Blues on one switch and Solo is always available on its own switch) I can't see why it wouldn't work well into a tube power amp with the right cabinets(s).
I have no idea why Mesa discontinued the V-Twin. I'm not a big Mesa fan either, but I have this and I also have a rackmount .22 Studio Preamp, that's the extent of my Mesa gear.
