Mesa Boogie V-Twin (Tweak?)

I have a Mesa Vtwin and think it´s too smooth. Isn´t sharp enought, without an eq is almost impossible to get a good sound.
One guy I´ve know that fixes tube amps said that he can tweak the pedal to get other shapes of sound. I think about changing tubes also. What do U think?

Re: Mesa Boogie V-Twin (Tweak?)

I once considered buying a V-twin too. I compared it to a Koch Pedaltone and ENGL Tubetoner, and the Koch beat both to death by any means (but mostly on clarity, sparkle and versatility). The V-twin is a nice pedal though, in fact I kinda like that dark tone in a way.

Re: Mesa Boogie V-Twin (Tweak?)

Try that tubescreamer infront of it; set to gain at 9 o clock, level at noon, and tone at 11 o clock.

Re: Mesa Boogie V-Twin (Tweak?)

The V Twin is a pretty dark preamp. I had EH 12AX7's in mine and it made it a bit brighter, but it was still smooth and thick.

Re: Mesa Boogie V-Twin (Tweak?)

what about buying one eq to put between the vtwin and the chorus?!
Would that resolve my "sharpness" problem?! By the way, anyone here tested the behringer eq? has a ****in great prize, is it a great cost/benefit?

Re: Mesa Boogie V-Twin (Tweak?)

I think it's naturally dark as hell as well! Only tricks I know are reducing gain. Try the mod and let us all know.

Re: Mesa Boogie V-Twin (Tweak?)

The gain knob acts like this:
at 0% - no sound
at 5/40% - thin distortion (unusable to me)
at 40/80%- 80% of the drive
at 80/100%-100%

considering that until 40% the sound is very thin, no enought sustain and ugly crunch. and at 40% the distoriton is at 80%. The gain variation is very subtle, How do i resolv that?
