Mesa/Boogie V-Twin

25's Nemesis
I just bought myself a V-Twin pedal and I love the sounds I get from it. I'm currently using it through my BF Bassman head into a 2x12 cab using my amp for clean and the blues and solo channels on the V-Twin. I do have a couple of questions. Is the V-Twin voiced like the Recto series of amps? How close to the real sound of the Recto series am I getting running the V-Twin into my Bassman?

The V-Twin, on Mesa's site, claims to be "sired after the dual rectifier." I find this to be complete BS, as it actually sounds good. It's voiced more like a Mark III than anything, IMO.

Re: Mesa/Boogie V-Twin

I've owned 2 V-Twins and on the Red channel, it's the Recto sound you've heard on all the CD's. Granted, it's about half as many tubes, so they've got to use some SS clipping to get the extra gain, but it's close enough.
Good choice on the BF Bassman, I used to use mine on a BF Bandmaster (modded for a cleaner, bassier sound) with a 2x12 modded Showman cab. With the V-Twin, you could get heavy as crap, it was huge on the Red Channel.
I always found the "Blues" channel to be totally Marshall sounding to my ears. The clean mode was fairly Fender like. I always found that the red channel worked best with a slightly dirty amp, and I'd tweak the gain pot to get the clean channels volume lower. Give this a shot.

I don't hate the rectos, but I do think the V-twin sounds much closer to the old school Mark series (I, II & III), than the Rectos.

Re: Mesa/Boogie V-Twin

i think the blues channel is definitly mark series type overdrive and the solo is kinda between a recto and later high gain mark. they are very cool little pedals, ive had mine since they came out. three power supplies later i still think it rocks

Thanks for the replies, guys. Fire & Jeremy, how do you guys use yours? Into a power amp, or through a regular amp?
