Mesa/Boogie vs Marshall

I owned a Mark I...sold it as fast as I could!

I hate the way Boogies sound...honky overdrive, artificial sounding and buzzy with that weird extra little note riding along on top of the main signal. Bugs me.

Don't much care for some of the stuff Randall Smith pulls either: like patenting commen place and pre-existing circuitry and designs he'll never use just so he can sue anyone who DOES try to use them.

I love a good Marshall...very natural, crunchy and vocal sounding. Real men just turn it up and let it rip. (LOL!)

I hope you don't limit yourself to simply the Mark I or Mark's in general...

Just not my style...I'm a simpler is better kinda guy.

Also, Randall Smith's patenting of everything under the sun (including designs he has no interest in ever using!) makes me want to puke...no offence.

He's still POed that he didn't patent the concept of overdriving one gain stage by driving it with the gain stage before it and funneling the whole thing through a master volume control: the Mark I. No one did that with the idea of intentionally creating overdrive/distortion before Smith...and EVERYONE from Marshall on down soon copied it.

So now he patents anything he can think of...just to make it hard on current and future amp designers.

Some people never have enough...even when they're rolling in it.

I dunno, IMHO Marshall always seemed to be more classic, and Mesa seems to be more modern, and Mesa always seemed to give me more of the tones that I wanted to use. Unfortunately, my ideal distortion tone is that thick metal oversaturated overcompressed chug-a-chug sound that still somehow sounds clear and cuts through the band (no fuzziness, white noise, etc.). I'm slowly realizing that this sound is an oxymoron in itself (clear distortion?) and might not even be possible.

Can you guys tell I had a tough day recording? Sorry if I strayed off topic a little.
