I dunno about Mesa cabs, but you might check out Avatar cabs. Great cabs for FAR less money.

FretFire, how is that new Rectoverb and Avatar cab treating you? I can't wait to hear some sound clips of it! I'm interested in a Rectoverb myself, but there's no place to play one out here on the East Coast, especially in my area. If they're not too expensive, I may use an Avatar cab instead of the Mesa cabs.

It's working out VERY nicely right now, even at (pretty loud) bedroom volumes. I'll be playing with the band this weekend, so I'll get to crank it and see how it really sounds
. After doing a bit of reading, and remembering that the tubes are stock (on a Series I head, probably 4-5 years old and apparently low quality Chinese tubes at that), I'm considering swapping at least the power tubes for a set of JJs. Who knows what that will do for this thing . I'll be continually posting my impressions of this amp over the next few weeks, but there's no doubt as to why the V30/G12 cabinet from Avatar is so popular. It rocks!

Joelap, where do you live? It would be great to get out and meet a SD forum member, especially if you only live 30 minutes away.
FretFire - Is the only difference between the Series I and II Rectoverbs that the Series II has the extra modes on each channel? From what I can tell, that's the only difference.
Sounds like I'll be going with an Avatar cab - they are so much less expensive than the Boogies. The 4x12's give better sound dispersion, but I've read that the 2x12, having a smaller body, is tighter and more well defined. What do you guys recommend though, 4x12's or the 2x12's?

There is also a bias switch so you can choose between 6L6 and EL34. The series I's only run with 6L6s. On paper, those are the only differences. I haven't played a Series II, but I've heard that they were made to sound a bit more like the Dual and Triple Recs. I personally haven't found a need for another mode yet, this thing can cover tons of bases pretty well.

Avatars are definitely a great choice. I just switched from a 4x12 to my new Avatar 2x12. Yes the old 4 was crappy, but it at least serves as a comparison against a 2x12. So far I haven't found any major problems as far as sound dispersion, it's a semi open back so you might lose just a bit of thump, but with quality speakers and cab construction you likely won't notice it too much. And, there's always the flexibility of eventually getting a second 2x12. If you want a 4x12, just stack 'em, or you can split them wide to the sides.
edit: I should add that the old 4x12 was NOT an Avatar cab, it was a "Legion Sound" cabinet I got off eBay a long time ago. Yes I learned my lesson :smack:
