Mesa gurus, Road King and G-Major...

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have a G-major in the loop of a Road King, all switched via an Amp Gizmo and Rocktron Midimate. I have read that some consider the G-Major to be a tone sucker. I have found that it is almost completely transparent, regardless of patch, on all channels and modes except one.

Channel 4 in modern mode with the G-Major in the loop sounds very "digitial" in a very negative way. I am experiencing serious tone suckage in just this one setting, even with the bypass engaged on the G-Major - so it isn't a matter of the patch settings. This device just being in just being in the loop, does not play nice with this channel. It is only in the this scenario that this happens, otherwise I couldn't be happier with the results. Its sounds beautiful, transparent and exceptionally high quality.

Is channel 4 modern mode just too much for most digital loop effects?

THe only digital effect I use in the loop is delay, and I find myself turning it off when I go to channel 4, except for leads. It may just be that the modern mode has certain characteristics (that presence, for example) that cause the digital effect to sound more digital. Maybe the warmth in the other channels can obscure it. The only suggestion I can offer is to tweak the treble and presence controls.

It seems like the G-Major is the overall favorite effects unit of Recto users, and channel 3 and 4 are supposed to by direct copies of the Dual Rectifier channel 2 and 3.

I suspect the same in that the "over-the-top" extreme EQ of that channel (presence and treble) dominates so much that it brings out the nasty qualities of digital effects units. I have tried my Yamaha magic stomp (great quality effects as well) in that same situation with the same result. I just use a little delay for leads also.

I had the same problem with the Magic stomp in the loop of my Dual Rec on channel 3 modern before trading in for the Road King and getting the G-Major for MIDI switching purposes. I can live with it, as I primarily use those more extreme channels dry for rythms.
