Mesa Lonestar Special Owners Swap Settings and Tips

Hello All,

New Member, but longtime reader of the forum. I own a Mesa Lonestar Special. It's the last amp I'll ever need. I was hoping to unite the LSS owners so we can swap settings, share experience, tips/tricks, guide troubleshooting etc. etc.

I love this little amp and would enjoy hearing from others who do too.

I own a Blue Angel, but the LSS is one great amp!

I remember reading about the Lonestar and Stiletto when they first came out, reviews and such. I thought they sounded awesome in print at least. I went the Stiletto rough and have a head I use these days. I'd buy a Lonestar on principle.

There simply are no bad settings.

Another place to check would be The Boogie Board. I think it is www.grailtone.com.

Be sure to read the Owner's Manual for the Special. If you don't have it, you can find it on the Mesa website. Their recommended settings are a good place to start. Understanding how the controls work together...especially the GAIN, CHANNEL MASTER and OUTPUT LEVEL, is critical. I love the Lonestars, and probably would have bought one, but I found a great deal on a Mark V combo and then another one on a Mark V:35. I'm very happy with them, but I'd consider a Lonestar if one popped up on my radar.

Check out Andy Timmons, as he uses the Lonestar Classic. Great player, great tone...and one of the nicest guys I have ever met in my 50+ years of being im the biz. Premier Guitar Magazine did one of their "Rig Rundowns" on him, and he's done several Mesa demo videos.

Good luck with your new amp!

Bill

Thanks Bill. I have been on the boogieboard, love Andy Timmons playing.

I'm hoping to form some camaraderie around this great little amp here on my favorite guitar forum.

One difficulty I sometimes have is getting a good distorted rythm tone, something tight and crisp. I love this amp for cleans, lead work, blues, it does a nice natural fuzz.
