mesa owners unite

Re: mesa owners unite

I had an Express 5:50 (not the plus model) 2x12 combo for a few days. I got it for $200 so I flipped it almost immediately to get the guitar in the picture below. The amp was fantastic, but I'd wanted that PRS for about a decade.

But I picked this up a few weeks ago, and I've got no plans to let it go. I've wanted this amp since I was about 16, but I had nowhere near that much money back then.

Re: mesa owners unite

If it has 2 rectifier valves, then it's a dual rec; there is a misapprehension that dual rec = br00talz, but I can see your point. Your setup looks beautiful, btw...

Thanks, this was the original with the full pedalboard I cropped from.

How is the tremoverb? Is it a slightly different flavor from the traditional dual rectifier?

I go through phases, sometimes I love the marshall crunch, sometimes I love the pristine Fender clean but sometimes the Mesa chunk and liquid sustain is simply perfect.

Wow! And I thought I was a Mesa fanatic! Awesome!

I don't have pics of mine, but I have these:

Mark V 112 C90 combo, with matching 112 V30 Wide-Body Closed-Back Thiele cab. (Awesome amp, and the V30 and the C90 go together nicely.)

Mark IVA 112 EVM combo, with matching 112 EVM Thiele Cab.

Mark III EVM 112 red stripe combo (EQ, Reverb, Simul-Class) in blonde tolex, with a matching 112 EVM Thiele cab.

Mark III Celestion 100 112 blue stripe combo (EQ, Reverb, Simul-Class) in black tolex, with a matching 112 JBL E-120 Thiele cab. Another great speaker pairing. (This rig is for sale, since I bought the Mark V.)

Two Maverick 212 V30 Combos. (One is for sale.)

DC-3 112 V-30 Combo with matching 112 EVM cab.

Mark III Coliseum 200-watt head (EQ, Reverb).

Half-Back 412 with C90s/EVMs.

Half-Back 412 with all EVMs.

Half-Back 212 with C90/MS-12 Black Shadow.

Horizontal Recto 212 cab with V30s.

I am totally blessed to be so amp rich. But even so, I'd love to have a Trem-O-Verb, a Heartbreaker, a Royal Atlantic or a Stiletto Ace. And I've got my eye on a Mini Mark V, or a Mini recto Reverb, or a Express 5:25+, thinking at the moment that I could use a small amp.

It never ends, does it?

Bill

.
I really wouldn't know as this is the only one I have spent any real time with ... The trem and reverb are great, it's very versatile, and is loud as all get-out.

Re: mesa owners unite

I love my Roadster, always run it through greenbacks and it sounds amazing

Also a Roadster - after a stint with DR Reborn. Both great at what they do, only my preferences have changed ever so slightly. Picked this over an Engl SE, which is much cheaper these days. Prices are reaching ridiculous heights :)

Re: mesa owners unite

I have a Mesa Boogie M190 which is an audiophile quality 180 watt all tube rackmount power amp monoblock which sounds exquisite in my rack rig.

Re: mesa owners unite

I'm late but: Rect-o-verb series I. Doesn't get much love on the net but I really like it...

Oh, somedude: you're much more knowledgeable than I'll ever be on mesas so I have a question: if dual recto = ss and tube recto, triple recto = ss, tube and what else?

The Dual Recto was given its name for the two rectifier types, it also has two pairs of power tubes, the triple is basically a Dual Recto with three pairs of power tubes. The naming system the came up with for the Rectifier series leads to a lot of confusion.

Re: mesa owners unite

I see, I always wrongly assumed it was just based on the number of recto tubes and then somedude's explanation confused it even more for me. Thanks for clarifyin it for me.

It also has 3 rectifier tubes.

Its easier to think of the names in terms of how many rectifier tubes they have... a single has 1... a dual has 2... a triple 3.

Yeah its confusing cause the original intention of the name was meant 2 types of rectifiers but somewhere it got away from mesa.

The Single, like the Mini that replaced it, doesnt use tube rectifiers. And this is why it's so confusing. The Dual Recto Solo was originally named so because of the two rectifier types, then the Dual Rectifier line was expanded to include several other amps, some of which only used one rectifier type but were still called Dual Rectifiers. Most people assumed it was called a Dual Rectifier because of the two rectifier tubes, and it was made more confusing when the Triple was released utilizing three rectifier tubes, and even more confusing still when the Single Rectifier was released using no tube rectifiers.

Yeah thats right I confused it... I remember thinking what the hell looking at my Blue Angel... The front of it said Dual Rectifier but it only had tube rectification. Then I had a maverick that had switchable rectifiers but only 1 tube..
