mesa owners unite

Re: mesa owners unite

The Single, like the Mini that replaced it, doesnt use tube rectifiers. And this is why it's so confusing. The Dual Recto Solo was originally named so because of the two rectifier types, then the Dual Rectifier line was expanded to include several other amps, some of which only used one rectifier type but were still called Dual Rectifiers. Most people assumed it was called a Dual Rectifier because of the two rectifier tubes, and it was made more confusing when the Triple was released utilizing three rectifier tubes, and even more confusing still when the Single Rectifier was released using no tube rectifiers.

What he said.

The Dual Rectifier was a marketing term used to draw attention to certain amps (Maverick, Blue Angel and Solo) having two rectifiers. The Triple was a play on the name (150w, 3 rectifier tubes, etc), as were the various Singles (50w, diode rectifier only, etc).

If you treat it as a marketing term it more or less makes sense... it's when you try to apply it literally that it gets confusing.

Yeah thats right I confused it... I remember thinking what the hell looking at my Blue Angel... The front of it said Dual Rectifier but it only had tube rectification. Then I had a maverick that had switchable rectifiers but only 1 tube..

I think the Blue Angle did have two rectifiers, they just weren't selectable. Tube on 6V6 or EL84 modes and tube+diode on 6V6+EL84 mode. Although, I could be incorrect so you might want to verify it.
