Anyone know who makes Mesa's 6L6 power tubes?

Im pretty sure they are chinese but take the bump until the guys that know show up.

I prefer JJs in my Mesa stuff.

The 6l6s they sell on the web site are Chinese made. But, I also noticed they sell el34, el84 and 6v6 tubes as well as some pre-amp tubes which are Chinese and Russian... some Sovtek, too. Here's a link to all their tubes- http://store.yahoo.com/mesa/mesboogtub.html

I thought they were Sovteks...

Whatever...not the best tubes out there, that's for sure.

I think most are relabeled Sovteks. Like the others have said, there are much better options out there. When I had my Rectoverb I MUCH preferred JJ power tubes in it.

kinda related... can I plug any brand on matched tubes into a Mesa (since it's set biased) or does it have to be a mesa tube. I'm assuming yes, but I just wanna make sure...

The STR-430s are Sovtec

The STR-454s are Svetlana

Though I heard they recently switched to a Chinese tube, but I don't know if that was for power or preamp tubes (they were using EHX for their preamp tubes).

Personally, I prefer the Svetlanas. Though I think I'll experiment with JJs next retube as lots seem to like them.

Robert - What pre tubes are you running?

Yup any tubes that are matched, the thing you can do to your advantage is getting hotter or colder rated tubes and they will effect your tone.
