This is with the master set to about 2, so the distortion is going to sound a little 'sharper' than I want it too. It's also miced with a condenser :smack: as I'm using my SM 57 to sing through where we jam. Just some sinpets. I haven't listened to any metallica in soo long I really don't know what to go for, lots of bass, few mids, palm mutes :smack:
Custom 5 bridge of a strat, master on about 2, vintage mode, single recto. The Custom 5 is wired with 500K pots which make it pretty bright and let too many highs through for my tastes. But, like I said, I tried :laugh2:
Rombola... I believe Metallica was using Mark IVs at the time, so the Rectoverb will get close (it's versatile) but I don't know if it'll nail the tone...

No, the Rectoverb doesn't have quite as much gain and has a "smoother/sweeter" sound than a standard recto. Sounds better to me, but I'm not a fan of either.
Its pretty much the same as the single recto. The difference in sound probably comes from the rectoverb being a combo and the single recto just being a head so speaker, cabinet combinations will make a difference.
